Abstract
This research paper contains 2 objectives; to study the teaching style of Vipassana meditation in the Theravada Buddhist scriptures, and to study the teaching style of Vipassana meditation practice of Ngwe Taung Oo Meditation Centre, Shan State, Myanmar. The data had been collected from Theravada Buddhist scriptures Including textbooks and concerned academic papers and research works, then compiled and presented as descriptive style, checked by experts. From the study, it found that;
The method Vipassana teaching found in Theravada Buddhism was that Buddha taught insight depending on qualification of an audiences, i.e. characteristics, behavior and facilities of each person. Principle of insight practice refers to the practical forms for wisdom development in order to realize the true state of name and forms at the present moment falling into three common characteristics based on Four Foundations of Mindfulness; contemplation on body called Kāyānupassanāsatipaṭṭhāna, contemplation on feeling or Vedanānupassanāsatipaṭṭhāna, contemplation on mind or Cittānupassanāsatipaṭṭhāna and contemplation on mental objects or Dhammānupassanāsatipaṭṭhāna.
Teaching Method of Vipassana meditation of Ngwe Taung Oo Meditation Centre, Shan State, Myanmar follows the teaching method of Ven. Sobhanamahathera (Mahasi Sayadaw). This method starts from disciplining oneself on three training principle, being mindful in every 4 main postures; standing, walking, sitting, sleeping with sub-postures at the present moment. Mindfulness must be continued without distractions and observing the manners of prior mind. Practitioners must be examined by teacher for solving mental objects and adjusting faculties in balance, then insight practice will go in advance reaching various insight knowledge, path and fruit knowledge and finally attaining Nibbana.
