A Provision of Public Services for Cremation through Sangahavatthu-4 of Undertakers in Phitsanulok Municipality

Abstract

 

Abstract

             The objectives of this research are (1) to study the opinions toward providing the public services for cremation through Sangahavatthu-4 or the four principles of service of undertakers in Phitsanulok municipality, and (2) to analyze the suggestions and how undertakers in Phitsanulok municipality apply Sangahavatthu-4 to their operation. This research is mainly conducted by means of a survey research method. The sampling of this research consists of 209 clients living in Phitsanulok municipality. The data collected is made by using questionnaires with reliability equal to 0.916, and analyzed by using SPSS program to find out frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation (S.D.)

 

                 The findings of this study show that:

 

                      1. The average of providing the public services for cremation through Sangahavatthu-4 of undertakers in Phitsanulok municipality is, in overall, at the point of ( = 3.80, S.D. = 0.742). However, when considered to separate item: Dana (generosity), Piyavaca (kindly speech), Atthacariya (useful conduct), and Samanattata (even equal treatment), it is found that the opinions are at a high level: [  = 3.95, S.D. = 0.710, = 3.82, S.D. = 0.820, = 0.81, S.D. 0.711, = 3.64, S.D. = 0.734.]

 

                      2. The obstacles in providing the public services for cremation through Sangahavatthu-4 of undertakers in Phitsanulok municipality are a major problem in relation to the lacks of service mind, good coordination, experienced expertise, and knowledge and ability that finally causes an inefficiency and ineffectiveness to their operation.

 

                      3. The suggestions for solution to the above problems are found that (1) the organization for cremation should prepare its staffs/members to be ready for the service mind and being proactive in service provision; (2) the organization for cremation should develop the ability and professionalism to its staffs/members, and (3) the organization for cremation should acknowledge the clients’ problems and solve them by setting up the development plans such as a training project/program for proficient performances.
