Abstract
The purposes of this research were; 1) to look after the physical health and the principle of Dhamma in taking care of the aging people’s mental health in the modern society 2) to study the situations and problems in taking care of the aging people in the territory of Nonglak Sub-district, Chaiwan District, Udonthani Province and 3) the guideline in application of Dhamma to take care of the aging people’s health in the territory of Nonglak Sub-district, Chaiwan District, Udonhani Province. This research was the qualitative research by studying the data from the documents and field study in order to collect the data from interviewing.
The results of research were found that the aging people mean people who are sixty years old up. The principle of Dhamma that is an appropriate for the aging people will be applied to proceed their lives for the benefits of happiness from the beginningr. The principle of the Three Characteristics related to take care of the aging people’s mental health must be accepted as the reality that occur in both positive and negative sides and accepted for the unhappiness that occurs by practicing the principle of Buddhadhamma in order to prolong the aging people’s lives. The physical and mental health are good and appropriate with the periods of lives. The earnestness results in the earnestness in the properties because people who have a lot of property become to be poor people, not to look down upon the others. The way of making merit is the Buddha’s teaching should be applied in the proper way.
An application of the principle of Dhamma in taking care of the aging people’s mental health in Nonglak Sub-district, Chaiwan District, Udonthani Province was found that the happiness in accordance with the Dhamma principle not only aims at the mental health but also realizes of the impact that will occur accordingly towards oneself, family, society and environment. Even the material happiness is important for proceeding the lives, but the life should not be fallen into the material slave or to let the mind get along with the defilements and the importance should be given to the mental happiness without assistance of the outside materials. The happiness, especially, results from studying the reality and understanding the legality of life including the happiness occurring the faith, rapture in making merit and the public assistance. The life consisting of wholesome will result in the happiness for oneself and the others, even the life is short, but it is better than the long life by accumulating the unwholesome viz: to be full of unhappiness. The application of Dhamma that individuals hold in their lives should be done in order to enhance and solve the physical problem to refine the defilements and try to do good in order to control the behavior in oneself and to avoid doing bad for the modern happiness and the hereafter by practicing as follows:
1. To solve the physical problems by accepting that everybody must face the things as they are, not only anyone who believe in the Law of Kamma, that is, to do good receives goodness, to do bad, receive badness, earnestness and patient.
2. To solve the mental problems and emotions by observing precepts, listening to Dhamma, endurance, reducing the hatred, greed, development of mindfulness and social assistance.
3. To solve the social and family problems by looking at something from an optimistic point of view, understanding, sympathy, not to defame, to avoid , the conflict, donation, assistance each other, charitable, satisfaction with doing goodness of the others and to respect the goodness of friends and family.
4. To solve the economics and earnings by earnestness in paying their property, to proceed life in sufficient way, to pay in the right way, contentment and to live with the simple life.
