Abstract

 

Abstract

            The purposes of this research include: 1) To study the achievement of learning and teaching in Abhidhamma pitaka subject of the first year students of the Faculty of Buddhism, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus; 2) To study the development of achievement of learning and teaching in Abhidhamma pitaka subject of the first year students of the Faculty of Buddhism, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus; 3) To compare the pre-and-post learning and teaching achievement in Abhidhamma pitaka subject of the first year students of the Faculty of Buddhism, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus; 4) To assess the quality of teaching in Abhidhamma pitaka subject of the first year students of the Faculty of Buddhism,  Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus.

            Sampling groups gained through cluster random sampling are 43 first year students in the second semester of academic year 2012 of the Faculty of Buddhism of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus. The research method is a collaborative research existing in normal condition. The research tools include achievement tests and education management assessment for improving teaching quality with five scales. Basic statistics and a pair t-test are used for data analysis. The findings of this research are:

1. In the achievement of learning and teaching in Abhidhamma pitaka subject of the first year students in the Faculty of Buddhism of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus, it has been found that the average score of the pre-learning achievement test is 16.60 out of 30 or 55.35 percents and the standard deviation is 2.79 while the average score of the post-learning achievement test is 24.65 out of 30 or 82.17 percents and the standard deviation is 2.14.

2. The development of achievement of learning and teaching in Abhidhamma pitaka subject of the first year students in the Faculty of Buddhism of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus is improved with the score of 8.02. The achievement of learning that passes 70 percent criterion is increased to 96 percent. The average achievement score of post-learning is 24.65 that is higher than the average 16.60 of the pre-learning achievement score. The standard deviation shows that the score is decreasingly distributed.

 

3. Comparison of pre-and-post learning achievement in Abhidhamma pitaka subject of the first year students in the Faculty of Buddhism of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus, the post-learning achievement is higher than the pre-learning achievement. The difference between the assessments of pre-and-post learning achievement is statistically significant at .05 which is in line with the hypothesis.

 4. In the assessment of the quality of teaching Abhidhamma pitaka subject assessed by the first year students in the Faculty of Buddhism of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Ubonratchathani Campus, the quality of teaching Abhidhamma pitaka subject is collectively high with the average score of 4.35 and standard deviation is 0.41. When the assessment is considered by item, the quality of teaching is at the highest level that the teaching texts and documents are in accordance with the content.  The five assessed items that are at high level include: The summary of lessons and content is correct and comprehensible; The content is clearly clarified and helps students understand and achieve the objectives; The assessment and evaluation is in accordance with the content of the subject; The assessment and evaluation have been continuously and regularly implemented and; The method of introduction to the lessons is interesting
