Abstract
The thesis entitled “The Role on Buddhist Propagation of Phrasubrommayanthera (Kruba Bromma Brahmacakko)” consists of 3 objectives as 1) to study the biography and roles of Phrasubrommayanthera, 2) to explore principles and methods in propagation of Buddhism and 3) to analyze his roles in propagation of Buddhism towards Lan Na society. This is conducted by the qualitative research method. Analytical studying and interpreting the data of field research was particularly functioned. In-depth interviews of the qualified were conducted. From the study, it can be found that:
Phrasubrommayanthera (Kruba Bromma Brahmacakko) is a noble Buddhist monk respecting the principle of Dhamma-vinaya sincerely. During his entering into the religious life, he has taken the life of a Buddhist monk under strict disciplines. He studied on his own and sought knowledge from many teachers to fulfill the duties of the monks. Later, he performed the important role of teaching for Buddhist monks and novices. He has made himself a role model and teaches people to follow the Buddha’s teachings properly. It can be said that he is the senior, respectful monk having magnificent conduct and duties and setting a good example for general people in society.
For the principles and methods in propagation of Buddhism, he is of the opinion that the mental development is an important matter. The practice of Vipassanā meditation on the 4-Satipaṭṭhāna (foundations of mindfulness): Kāyānupassanā-; contemplation of the body, Vedanānupassanā -; contemplation of feelings, Cittānupassanā-; contemplation of mind, and Dhammānupassanā-; contemplation of mind-objects are explicitly taught by him for Buddhist monks and novices, and general persons. Besides, he has a way of spreading Buddhism by ways of the sermon preaching and Dhamma lecturing. He can explain Dhamma so people could understand clearly. Buddhist proverbs with metaphors comparison are periodically used. He wrote the book of Teaching Proverbs, Book of Questions and Answers on Sīla, Samādhi and Paññā, Book of Abhinhapaccavekkhaṇa, Book of Khemasaranakom and so on. These books are considered to be useful for him in the propagation of Buddhism as well.
Last, it can be concluded that Phrasubrommayanthera (Kruba Bromma Brahmacakko) has played the vital roles in the propagation of Buddhism. He is prominent in the practice of insight development in line with the 4- Satipatthana and can spread the teachings of the Buddha, as well as accurately. In addition, he was considered as the fully equipped one in all aspects of Sangha Administration, Religious Education, Welfare Education, Propagation of Buddhism, Public Facilities, and Public Welfares. Thus, he has developed persons, created jobs and made sacred objects. He has made himself as peace of mind, simplicity and exemplary. So he is revered by Buddhists in Thailand and abroad, as his motto of gradually introduced, making one look, living to be seen and being cool to be perceived.
