Abstract
The research is a philosophical study on Lao Tzu’s ethical concept as found in Gu Long’s literary works. The research’s objectives are to study Lao Tzu’s ethical concept in Tao Te Ching and to analyze an ethical concept as appeared in Go Long’s literary works. The study focuses on seven books of Gu Long’s literary works.
The study found that Lao Tzu’s philosophical concept aimed at the simplicity of living in line with nature, having patient and humility in accordance with nature. In addition, the Lao Tzu’s ethical concept can be found in 4 aspects viz., (1) To know oneself and nature of life, (2) Conquer Oneself, (3) Self – Moderation and (4) Taoism is the an ideal life.
Regarding the seven literary works of Go Long, there are a variety of characters and each character has unique characteristics such as freedom in lifestyle, unaccepted rules of society, morality, brave heart, intense feeling of justice, moderation, gratefulness, honesty and willing to sacrifice. All charismas are linked the character of common people of the world. In addition, the Lao Tzu’s ethical concepts were appeared in all characters of Go Long’s literary works as the above mentioned. The ethics of Lao Tzu appeared in a manner of the responsibility in each period of life. It can be seen clearly from the behavior of those characters, which have their own lifestyle with morality. The ethical concept that found in Go Long’s literary works was: loving kindness, refuse to take notice of honor, living in simplicity, unselfishness, being helpful to other and non-materialistic. Beside the combat craft, the key findings from the literature of Gu Long was the philosophical idea that reflected the true essence of human life and society. It is not only the characters that found in the Go Long’s novel.
