Abstract

The purposes of this thesiswere 1) to study the concepts on life and death in Theravada Buddhism, 2) to compare levels of attitudes towards life and death of the Buddhists in Plaibang, Bangkruai district, Nonthaburi province, classified by general information, and 3) to apply as guidelines for the Buddhists to realize of their importance and behave rightly towards life and death, classified by personal factors. The samples used in this research were 384 Buddhists in Plaibang, Bangkruai district, Nonthaburi province. The research tool was a questionnaire on attitudes towards life and death in Theravada Buddhism. The data analysis and statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent samples t-test, One-way ANOVA.

The results of the study were as follows;

Attitudes towards Life and Death of the Buddhists in Plaibang, Bangkruai district, Nonthaburi province are classified by age as the following; 24 Buddhists were less than 15 years old (6.25%), 114 Buddhists were between 16 – 20 years old (29.69%), 125 Buddhists were between 21 – 25 years old (32.55%), and 121 Buddhists were more than 25 years old (31.51%).

 

The analysis results of attitudes towards death of the samples of this research reveal high in general ( = 3.08). The findings in eachdimension,namelyFeeling ( = 3.05) and Behavior ( = 3.14) are in high level while Cognition is in middle level ( = 3.08).

The results of an analysis of a comparison of attitude found that samples with different age, gender, degree of education, professional status have different attitudes toward life and death in all aspects which are: 1) Cognitive aspect, it was found that samples with different age, gender, degree of education, professional status have different attitude towards life and death in all aspects; 2) Affective aspect, it was found that samples with different age, gender, degree of education, professional status have different attitude towards life and death in all aspects; and 3) Behavioral aspect, it was found that samples with different age, gender, degree of education, professional status have different opinion towards life and death in all aspects.
