Abstract
This research is a quantitative one which has the following objectives 1) to study the perception and behavior of those who have lost a loved one from death after participating in the Buddhist activity which aims to instill the principles of kamma and life after death. 2) to observe the result of a life development through 4 Bhavana’s of those who have lost a loved one from death after a period of 10 months following the program.
The instrument used for collecting the data are Record Form, Observation Sheet. In-depth Interview, In-depth Interview Guideline which had been approved by experts. 15 Sample were drawn from Phra Panot Khunwuttho’s Buddhist Healing Activity. The statistic applied are Frequency Distribution and Percentage.
The result of research can be summarized as follows:
The majority of respondents are over 50 years-old, female, have a bachelor degree. They pray or meditate 2-3 times a week and take a recluse for meditation 1-2 times per year. Most of them work as an employer.
Participants have changed the perception towards death. They gain the understanding that loss is the nature of life. The study shows that the belief about life after death is a part of a right view, which is one element of the path that leads human to the eradication of sufferings, completed with morality, passion and faith for good deeds, heedlessness and spending one’s life to build merits and help others.
The development of the quality of life on physical aspect is a development of both internal and external sense-fields (Ãyatana), to utilize sense-fields and all organs in a manner that relates and supports physical environment. Participants cultivate more aspiration (chanda), watch the sense-fields more closely and are capable to use wisdom to investigate whatever that touch their senses.
The development of the quality of life on morality aspect. Participants learn to lead a proper and happy life. They are able to escape sufferings with disciplines through a better self-control that causes no harm to others. They know how to search and enjoy worldly happiness without exploiting others, at the same time they give back to the society in return.
The development of the quality of life on psychological aspect. Participants have faith in Buddhism. They change their attitude toward monks. They respect all things with kind heart and are ready to share with others. They are ashamed of and fear sins, are aware of present moment, are capable to control unsteadiness born inside them. They have a desire to help those who suffer with love and compassion.
The development of the quality of life on wisdom aspect. Participants are healed of their grief and realize that loss and pain actually bring forth growth and good life formation. They realize their full potential that is not limited by a pain from hopeless loss, however they see opportunities and are aware of worth of life and its meaning that can be developed to meet goals which are the path to knowledge and reasons.
