ABSTRACT
The research consisted of three main objectives: i) to study quality of life development of people in the five precepts observing Village, Nongkae District, Saraburi Province; ii) to study relationship between moral behavior in five precept observation and quality of life development of people in the five precepts observing Village, Nongkae District, Saraburi Province; and iii) to study problems, obstacles and suggestions quality of life development of people in the five precepts observing Village, Nongkae District, Saraburi Province. This research was by Mixed Methods in which Survey Research was conducted as quantitative method. The sampling group consisted of 377 people applying to participate in the Five-precept Village Project from totally 21,225 people, and the Stratified Random Sampling was used with the help of Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. The tool for data collection was questionnaire. The gathered data were analyzed by using statistical techniques for social science research such as Frequencies, Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation. To test the hypotheses, t-test, F-Test (One Way Analysis of Variance) and Least Significant Difference(LSD) were employed. To test relationship between moral behavior in five precepts observation and quality of life development of people, Pearson Correlation was conducted. On the other hand, an analysis of interview-data from 10 Key Informants was used by the Context Content Analysis Technique.
The findings of the study are as follows:
1. The overall quality of life development of people in the Five – Precept Village, Nongkae District, Saraburi Province was found at the great level. Having considered into each aspect, it was also found at great levels.
2. To test the hypotheses, it was found that people’s gender, age, and marital status have no significant differences to quality of life development of people in the Five – Precept Village, Nongkae District, Saraburi Province, denying formulated hypotheses. Meanwhile, people’s level of education, occupation, income and religious activity–participation have significant differences to quality of life development of people in the Five – Precept Village, Nongkae District, Saraburi Province, at 0.05 level of confidence, accepting formulated hypotheses.
3. There is statistically significant relationship between moral behavior in five-precept observation and quality of life development of people in the five precepts observing Village, Nongkae District, Saraburi Province, at 0.05 level of confidence in all aspects: abstaining from intoxicants causing heedlessness, abstaining from false speech, abstaining from sexual misconduct, abstaining from killing and abstaining from stealing, respectively.
4. The problems and obstacles were found as follows: Due to rapidly change of society and technological advance, Buddhists, especially in the Five–Precept Village, Nongkae District, Saraburi Province, do not pay great attention to apply and practice Dhamma; oppositely they follow their desire with no limit so that they have no chance to study Dhamma and observe the Five Precepts.
The suggestions: there should be stimulation and promotion for people to enable to apply the Five Precepts in daily life, and participate in the Five-precept Village Project continuously.
