Abstract


ABSTRACT

 

 

               The research consisted of three objectives, namely, 1) to study the roles of monks in community development in Cauke district, Travinh province, Vietnam. 2) to study Factors affecting the roles of monks in community development in Cauke district, Travinh province, Vietnam and 3) to study problems, obstacles and suggestion in this area. The population was people living in Cauke district, Travinh province, Vietnam. There are 150 samples chosen by using krejcie and Morgan table. The independent variables are age, years of monkhood (Phansa), General Education, Dhamma studies, and position. The dependent variable is community development. The tools used to collect information were questionnaires and open ended ones. The questionnaire reliability gained was 0.05 and the statistics used in data analysis were frequency, percent, age, mean, standard deviation, t- test, one- way ANOVA, Least Significant Difference: LSD, and content analysis.

 

                    

The research findings were concluded as follows:

               1. The overall monk’s roles in community development in Cauke district, Travinh province, Vietnam were found at high in all aspects ( = 3.96). When it’s considered in each aspect, it’s highest level in every area with the educational of     ( = 4.15), ordering from high to low as follows social, cultural and environmental equivalent, and economic.

 

               2. With regard to comparison of the roles of monks in community development in Cauke district, Travinh province, Vietnam classified by personal factors, it had found that age, years of monkhood, level of general education, Dhamma studies and position had statistical significant differences with community development at 0.05 level of confidence result separated in age, years of monkhood (Phansa), general education, Dhamma studies, and position was different with statistical significant at 0.05 levels.     

 

 

               3. The problems and obstacles to the roles of the monks in community Cauke District, Travinh province, Vietnam. The first monks did not get received cooperation from agencies involved in the clergy and the people involved in community development because they lack knowledge of sacrifice and lack of planning the strategy of social development. The second issue Monks mainly serves as a mere ritual and like religious activity do not have a social mission to teach the public lack of knowledge of Buddhism. The third issue some monks is less interested in culture, such as antiques and artifacts, etc. Like the majority of people do not care about the environment, natural resources ether variability every year.

          4. Suggestion the roles of monks in community development in Cauke district, Travinh province, Vietnam. The first clergy council should set a clear policy plan to the monks and people to participate in social development about in community development. The second issue clergy council should encourage people to convey the roles of monks in community development to live together peacefully in society, and the last, Buddhist monks council should encourage cooperation between the monks monastic communities to be more along the lines of social development, economic, educational, cultural and environmental Buddhist monks must have their roles in community development, in order to make society Khmer living in Vietnam being happy
