This thesis entitled “Social Development According to the Buddhist Pañcasila and Pañcadhamma” is of the three objectives, i.e., (1) to study the concept of development according to the five precepts, (2) to study the model of social development according to the five precepts and the five Dhammas, and (3) to suggest the way to develop society according to the five precepts and the five Dhammas.
Findings of the research study are as following.
Buddhism prefers the individual development more than the group of people. The criterion to create a peaceful community is precept, i.e., to restrain from killing, stealing, sexual misconducts, false speech, and intoxicants causing heedlessness. These five precepts, the so-called Pañcasila, make a person reliable and attractive to the many, that is, life leads him to a happy life in this and the next life. Moreover, the five precepts are to the followed by the five Dhammas, the so-called Pañcadhamma, i.e., loving-kindness and compassion, right means of livelihood, sexual restraint, truthfulness, and mindfulness and awareness. Side by side with the practice of Pañcadhamama help people to develop their community to the all extent.
