Abstract
This dissertation entitled “The Development of Power Relationship Between The State and Thai Sangha” has three objectives: (1) to study the theory of the Power Relationship (2) to study the Development of the Power Relationship between the state and the Sangha in the Rattanakosin period (3) to study the Power Relationship between the state and the Sangha in period of Rattanakosin. This is a quality research that consists with documentary research, interview, public hearing and content analysis.
The research findings were the Power Relationship means the relation through the Law to empower the government including the interpersonal relation towards the custom. The said relation relate to the operation and administration connection in every level; interpersonal, group and society.The state authorize the power of government through the law ; moreover, the Buddhism qualify the state towards the institution and personnel level ; therefore, the Practical Dhamma Principle for the state is Dhammacracy. It is not the pattern of government; however, the concept to respect the Dhamma Principle. The important Dhamma Principle is Dhammaraja which show the good leader who has the right view; the Sila practice as normal.
The development of Power Relationship between the state and Thai Sangha state in the Rattanakosin period occurred in 3 types ; Law, Politics and the propagation of Buddhism. The early age of the Rattanakosin period the Buddha statue were the holy and merit of the King ; however, the last of this age the dimension of Politics related with the historical sense.The middle age of the Rattanakosin period, Universal concept was changed to solidarity state concept which complied with the historical sense under the new modern Siam Country. At the Present, there are the government of autocracy switch to the government of democracy ; moreover, several time to correct The Thai Sangha Law. The last one in the period The present King of Thailand is The additional corrections Thai Sangha law 2560 B.C.
The relation of Power Relationship between the state and Thai Sangha state in the Rattanakosin period towards the law as the followings; King Rama I did written enactment the Thai Sangha law 2325-2344 B.C., King Rama IV enacted The Law meeting announcement IV. At the period of King Rama V legislated Thai Sangha law 121 R.C.which 2 sects : Dhammayuttika Sect and Great Sect ; moreover, the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand as the advisor.The Sangha law 2484 B.C. was enacted in the period of King Rama VIII according to the supremacy was change from The King to Constitution Law. The King took the power through the Legislative Power, Executive Power and Judicial Power.At the period of King Rama IX legislated the Sangha law 2505 B.C.; moreover, the first revised in 2535 B.C. Now, The present King of Thailand edited the second Thai Sangha law 2505 B.C. with the His Majesty Supreme Patriarch will be selected by The King as the ancient traditions.
