Abstract
This thesis had three objectives; to study the corporeality in Buddhist scripture, to study the Vipassana Bhavana retreat and to study the rising and falling of the corporeality in Vipassana Bhavana. Clarified data are taken from the Theravada Buddhist scriptures and other related documents, then composed, summarized, analyzed, explained in details, corrected and verified by Buddhist scholars. From the study it found that;
There are twenty eight Rūpa-khandhas in the Theravāda Buddhism and can be divided into two types, which are 1) Mahābhūta-rūpa: the four primary elements, i.e., the element of extension, the element of cohesion, the element of heat, the element of vibration, 2) Upādāya-rūpa : the twenty four derivative materiality, i.e., eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, form, sound, taste, woman, man, life, Hadaya-vatthu (heart base), Kāya-viññatti (gesture), Vacī –viññatti (verbal intimation), ākāsa (space), Lahutā (light rūpa), Mudutā (elasticity), Kammaññatā (adaptability), Upacaya (growth), Santati (continuity), Jaratā (decay), Aniccatā (impermanence), and food.
Insight Meditation Practice by the Foundation of Mindfulness in Theravāda Buddhist scripture is to be mindful in body, feeling, mind, and mind-objects. To be aware in the present form and concrete until understand the Three Characteristics by wisdom, namely, impermanence, suffering, and non-self cannot control to be as mind desired, with rising existing and falling as usual. In meditation retreat, the meditator should have mindfulness to realize what is rising while practicing, by this way he/she will knows and understand himself distinctly and lead to enlightenment.
The three cravings, i.e., craving for sensual, craving for existence, craving for non-existence and self-annihilation, are the cause of rising which originated from ignorance, craving, karma, food. Otherwise, karma, mind, physical law, food are the cause of rinsing of form. They was the cause in the past life until fertilization, then form can grow up because food up to present. The distinguishing of the cause of rising of craving is to distinguish the cause of corporeality.
