Abstract

Abstract

This thesis has three objectives; to study the Enlightenmentin the Theravada Buddhist Scriptures, to study of Cultivation and Perfection in the Theravada Buddhist Scriptures, to study of Cultivation and Perfection in enlightenment of Venerabie. Clarified data are taken from the Theravada Buddhist scriptures and other related documents, then composed, summarized, analyzed, explained in details, corrected and verified by Buddhist scholars. From the study it found that;

Enlightenment means the enlightened in Saccadhamma which is the enlightenment in the four Ariyasacca (the four noble truth). Then becoming the Ariyapuggala who reaches the Magga Phala Nibbāna, release from all suffering by practicing according to the thirty seven Bodhipakkhiya-damma which is called the qualities contributing to the highest enlightenment in Buddhism. The Enlightenment will be different according to the cultivation and perfection since in the past. Some of the Ariyapuggala enlightenment by listening, some enlightenment by practice according to the nine or the sixteen vipassanānāna.

For perfection in Theravada Buddhism is the way of practice to attain the highest goal. which is the attainment of an Arahant. The perfection in Theravada Buddhism has three leves which are Pārami Upapārami and Paramattha-pārami. The Cultivation and Perfection for enlightenment shall accumulate and perfection in order to be the strength in for eliminating the defilements covered in mind. Thus Pārami will benefit to self and others. Finally is for the ending of redie and rebirth enlightenment of dhamma at the highest level which is Nibbāna.

Venerabie Nalakathera had ordained as Dābasa, waiting for the enlightenment of the Lord Buddha, since then he had cultivate his perfection and trained indriya waiting for the Lord Buddha. Later he heard the notice from dheva and all human beings that the Lord Buddha had arisen in the world and announced the Noble Truths. Then he went to query about the noble behavior of the muni from the Lord Buddha till faith arise. Then he asked for ordain as a monk. He had practiced the Patipada of muni or Monayyapatipati and achieve to Arahant. Venerabie Nalakathera is the only Arahant savaka who practice Monayyapatipai seriously. He stayed alive nly seven months and then nibbāna.
