Abstract

 

Abstract

        The aim of this research is 1) to study of the Buddhist principle of tolerance (Khanti) in Buddhism 2) to study of the first precept in Buddhism and3) to study of tolerance as promotion to observe the first precept in Buddhism.

          The result of research finds that;

1) Khanti means physical and mental tolerance from outside emotion. One should remain calmly at least to tolerate from defilement for attaining the supreme goal. One should not do bad deed, do cruel, do evil and do carelessness. There are 4 practical methods of tolerance; 1) tolerance for trouble means strongly mind for doing duty till finish 2) tolerance for suffering means not showing more stress as suffering experience 3) tolerance of mental trouble means do not revenge when one was being scold, insult, gossip and provoked and 4) tolerance from the power of defilement means tolerance for any craving.

2) The first precept is the protection of body and life of human from being. against each other. It support the human for relieving cruel, being kindness to each other and accept the similar of life to the other. The observer of the first precept have to refrain 1) to kill by one’s order or order the other  2) physical harm by one’s order or order the and 3) torture means cruel behavior to the other ruthlessly.

3) For the tolerance as promotion to observe the first precept in Buddhism, it can analyze into 3 point; 1) tolerance supports one’s practical behavior for developing to moral life. To follow the tolerance can help one control and reduce greed, hated and delusion. To observe the first precept can reduce the greed for killing, reduce the delusion for killing and reduce the hated in case carelessness 2) tolerance supports to refrain from evil deed, control the greed, hated and delusion. It can to be moral for developing oneself because of killing is said evil action and 3) tolerance and observing the first precept as-Vinaya-Sil means to make moral tolerance for basic discipline in daily life and support the first precept for protection from the greed, hated and delusion. Also, interception should consider for violating the precept by tolerating one’s mind. Sil as precept and moral can support one’s mind concentration. Sil as precept and moral for merit means practice tolerance in daily life for supporting the first precept in stable way till it completed as Vinaya and dhammma. To observe the first precept as Sil-Dhamma means this precept can develop oneself to the truth and support the other principles for the supreme practice and for the peace of this world.
