ABSTRACT
This research study is of 3 main objectives: (1) to study the association with the friends according to the teachings in Theravada Buddhism (2) to study the association with the friends according to the teachings in Confucianism and (3) to compare the association with the friends according to the teachings in Theravada Buddhism and in Confucianism. This research is a documentary study. The results of the research showed that the association with the friends according to the teachings in Teravada Buddhism is to know people who are kind to one another intimately familiarly, affectionately, sincerely and considerately to one another. Relations between the parties involved the need to look for the daily necessities or refer to the various environmental friendly manner of the same importance. If the person is pretty good and has various publications as well, it is still a great friend called a "good friend".
The association with the friends according to the teachings of the religion of Confucianism is to have compassion between the people with such kindness to parents as gratitude. Mercy is a bond with siblings. Mercy with her husband's love. Mercy with children’s a great hope. Mercy is loyal to the king. Mercy with friends is trust companion and Mercy to others is sincerity. To compare the association with the friends according to the teachings in Theravada Buddhism and in Confucianism, is found :-
1) The association with the friends in the Buddhist view aims at the good fellowship, the intelligent person with knowledge and the faith, that is as person with the principles of good people who have the monastic lives. In the view of Confucianism, the association with the friends is to create a friendly relationship between a person by the virtue of mercy as the loving-kindness.
2) Regarding the context of the association with the friends, both religions have a friendly attitude in the same contexts, is :- the political context, the social context and the economic context.
3) The friends in the two religions are of the same types and characteristics, that is : the good friend who can help one another in bodily action, verbal action and mental action. On the other hand, the bad friend is the one who thinks only of the benefit.
4) The association with the friends according to the teachings in the both religions depends on the building up of the relationship among the friends by using the minds as the co-operations, that is to be of the justice to one another, to be of the true minds to one another, the fact of which causes the harmony to arise, when one can work in this way, one can cause the harmony to arise and to cause the great strength to arise. Such the strength can cause the different activities to come to success as set up by ourselves.
