Abstract

                 This thesis is of three objectives, they are, 1) to study of a study of rules of kings in Tharavada Buddhist Scriptures 2) to study dharma principle concerning with virtues of the ruler in Tharavada Buddhist Scriptures 3) to study the application way to use virtues of the ruler in the life.

                 The result of the research found that the Dasarajadhamma  as the following: (1) Charity (2) High moral character (3) Self-sacrifice (4) Honesty (5) Kindness and gentleness (6) Self-control (7) Non-anger (8) Non-violence  (9) Tolerance (10) Non-deviation from ringteousness appear in Mahasang story which come from Lord Buddha’s mouth at Paranasri city named Sangyama responding the SwanKing name Tharattha. The king ruled the land in the past with the virtues of the ruler. The significance of Dasarajadhamma mentioned the leader and the state ruler, the emperor, the king including general rulers. It is the quality of great rulers. The dharma principle concerning with the virtures of the ruler divided as the following: Threefold Training.- (1) Morality (2) Concentration and (3) Wisdom Principles of service.- (1) Charity (2) Kindly speech (3) Useful conduct (4) Participation and behaving oneself properly in all circumstances and states of conciliation.- (1) to be amiable in deed (2) to be amiable in word (3) to be amiable in thought (4) to share any lawful gains with virtuous fellows (5) to keep without blemish the rules of conduct along with one’s fellows (6) to be endowed with right views along with one’s fellows, openly and in private.

                 The dharma principle supporting virtues of the ruler divided into the qualities of a gentlemen (1) Knowing the cause (2) Knowing the purpose (3) Knowing oneself (4) Moderation (5) Knowing the proper time (6) Knowing the society             (7) Knowing the individual, King’s things leading never to decline but only to prosperity such as: (1) To hold regular and frequent meetings (2) to meet together in harmony, disperse in harmony, and do their business and duties in harmony (3) To introduce no revolutionary ordinance, or break up no established ordinance. Virtues for a good household life (1) Truth and honesty (2) Taming and training oneself        (3) Tolerance (4) Generosity and Sublime states of mind is (1) Loving-kindness             (2) Compassion (3) Sympathetic joy (4) Neutrality, On the other hand the dharma principle opposes to the virtues of the ruler divided as the following: Wrong course of behavior (1) Prejudice caused by love desire (2) Prejudice caused by hatred or enmity (3) Prejudice caused by delusion or stupidity (4) Prejudice caused by fear Roots of bad actions 3 items such as: (1) Greed (2) Hatred (3) Delusion Unwholesome course of action 10 items (1) Destruction of life (2) Stealing (3) Sexual misconduct (4) False speech (5) Malicious speech (6) Harsh speech (7) Frivolous talk (8) Covetousness   (9) Illwill (10) Wrong view. The practical way of using virtues of the ruler in the way of life mentioned the analysis in the practical way of using virtues of the ruler which are the dharma principles for kings, rulers and leaders at any levels. There are 10 items as the following: (1) Charity (2) High moral character (3) Self-sacrifice (4) Honesty (5) Kindness and gentleness (6) Self-control (7) Non-anger (8) Non-violence (9) Tolerance (10) Non-deviation from righteousness.
