Abstract

This thesis is of 3 objections, namely: - to study the 6 Indriyas in Theravada Buddhist Scriptures, to study the wisdom in Theravada Buddhist Scriptures and to study the examination of the 6 Indriyas to cause the wisdom in developing Vipassana Bhavana to arise by studying the data from Theravāda Buddhist Scriptures: The Tipitaka, Atthakatha, Tika, and others related Scriptures, such as: - Visuddhi Magga Scripture etc. From the composition, the explanation and the checking by the experts, it is found that:

The six Indriyas in Theravāda Buddhist Scriptures mean the marks of being the Greatness shown by the Buddha. The types of the six Indriyas :- Cakkhundriya, Sotindriya, Ghanindriya, Jivhindriya, Kayindriya and Manindriya. The Importance of these Six Indriyas is the cause of attaining the Dhammas and the cause of going away from the defilement etc. The controling of the 6 Indriyas can control such the Indriyas accessing to principles of the 4 efforts and to the Indriyasamvara and the state of having Satisampajañña etc. The benefits from the controlling of the 6 Indriyas are: - the states causing the Satisamvara and Pāţtimokkhasamvara, and the states of not letting okasamara come to disturb the practices. They are also the causes causing the practices to live happily at the present time.

The wisdom in Theravāda Bhuddhist Scripture means the general knowledge, the clear knowledge, the research work, the choice and the looking at the Dhammas, the fact of which is called “Dhi” and “Manta” meaning “Sammaditthiñana” which is in
co-operation with Kusalacittas which are called “Pañña”, which means the general knowledge which means the knowledge of the general fact which is more special knowledge than Sañña. Such the knowledge is the realization of the three Characteristics. Such the wisdom is the realization of the Four Noble Truths which cause the one to attain the Path, the Fruit and Nibhana by realizing Aniccam, Dukkham and Anatta.

The examination of the six Indriyas to cause the wisdom to arise in developing the Insight Meditation is to realize the six Ayanatas: – the eye, the ear, the nose, the tongue, the body and the mind. When one sees the form with the eyes, one will be pleased or not pleased with the arising things. Then, the practices will realize the arising state according to the fact with the three Characteristics beginning with AniccaLakkhana etc. and will be able to consider and see the different thing clearly up to hearing the wisdom knowing the truths.
