ABSTRACT
The research entitled “An Analytical Study of the Buddha’s Strategy in Solving the Youth Violence” consists of 3 purposes: 1) to study the problems, the causes and the impacts of violence in youths, 2) to study the Buddhist ways to solve violence in youths and 3) to study the Buddhist ways to resolve the violence in youths particularly in Ban Soptern Village.
It was found that the tendency of violent occurrences in youth including the violation of human rights physically, verbally and emotionally as well as the problem of sexual violence, drugs, gambling, and crime are caused not only by the spiritual weakness in the community but also lack of morality, meditation and wisdom. The influential community members, for instance, family, school and community could not be good role models, When associated with people of bad behavior normally found in community. The modern consumerism way of life lessens the discipline of moral good and also awareness in youths. These probably were caused from greed, anger, and ignorant delusion. Eventually, the impacts affect the oneself, family, school, community and country.
Buddhist ways to resolve the problem of youth violence: the main physical control, verbal control consisting of the Buddha’s Method as protecting youth from bad behaviors and preserving and creating for good behaviors (Model 2 por 2 ror in Thai words) which contain external factors; having good environment, including house, temples, schools, community, and best friend, and the internal factors; behavior adjustment, conscious awareness, moral enhancement and moral maintenance by having mind practice (meditation) which aims to train and develop the ability of knowing the truth (wisdom) according to the principle of The Four Cakka (Wheels). The principle is prevention, treatment and creation.
Analysis of ways to solve the problem of violence in youths of Ban Soptern Village is conducted by having youth participation. The youths learn through the process of mechanism driving and the integration with the Buddhist way (Model 2 por 2 ror in Thai words). It was found that the youth’s parents, community and school improved. Villagers stopped doing drugs. Eventually, the final product outcome is Sobtern Model. The modal links the Buddhist ways to solve the violence problem in youths. The Four Padhāna (Diligent Efforts) is the main principle that applies to the 7 effective activities while threefold training and other principles are supplements. The findings prove the harmony of principles effectively. The result is consistent; respectively confirm that the integration of the Buddhist way is able to lessen violence problems in youths in accordance with the study’s purpose.
