Abstract
This research is of two objectives, namely : 1) to study the Buddhãnussati – kammatthãna as one of the 40 subjects of meditation and 2) to study the relationship between the Buddhãnussati–kammathana and Buddho-Kammathana.
From the study, it is found that the Buddhãnussati-kammathama or the Buddhãnussati meditation means the usual recollection of the Buddha which is one of the 40 methods for practicing meditation as found in the 10 kinds of Anussati and is also regarded as a subject in 40 subjects of meditations. As for the Buddho - kammatthãna or the Buddho meditation, it is to practice and develop the mindfulness by reciting in mind the term ‘Buddho’, which is aimed to attain the concentration at the first time and later to go further with the development of the insight Meditation.
The relations of both on the contents are : the subject of the Buddho meditation is of a little bit relationship with Buddhãnussati meditation. Of those, The latter is to recollect the Buddha’s values for concentration, but the former is to recite in mind the word ‘Buddho’, together with focusing mindfulness on breathing in and breathing out, for concentration, too. On the other hand, both has relations as leading meditation and supporting meditation : the Buddho meditation - to recite in mind the word ‘Buddho’ for concentration is the leading meditation and is of much relationship with the supporting meditations - Kayagatãsati, Dhãtu – kammatthãna and Anãpãnassati Kammatthãna, but is of little relationship with Brahmavihãra as another supporting meditation. As for the Buddhãnusati meditation, it is to recollect the Buddha’s values being used as the leading meditation for concentration but as a supporting meditation for insight meditation.
