ABSTRACT
This research focuses on 3 main objectives: 1) to study theories or concepts relating to ethical behaviors of students in elementary schools in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province, 2) to compare opinions towards ethical behaviors of students in elementary schools in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province and categorize them by personal factors, and 3) to propose problem solving solutions as well as ethical-behavior improvement methods for students in elementary schools in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province.
In this research, the researcher deployed both Quantitative Research method by using data collection via a questionnaire and Qualitative method by making an in-dept interview with 678 students in Pratom 5 and Pratom 6 (Grade 5 and Grade 6) studying in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province. This sampling, using the table from R.V. Krejcie & D.W. Morgan,contained 242 students in Pratom 5 and Pratom 6 (Grade 5 and Grade 6) studying in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province. Moreover, the in-dept interview would be done with 10 professionals in improving human’s behaviors, consisting of 3 monks, 4 management from the schools, and 3 students randomly selected from those students in Pratom 5 and Pratom 6 (Grade 5 and Grade 6).
The research findings include:
1. as per the studies in relating researchers and articles, many of them had paid attention to the ethical behavior improvement in term of general disciplines, on-time management, being economical, diligence, and loving parents. This research additionally covers ethics as per the Buddha’s teachings as well as the readiness of students to do goods and suitably behave.
2. the comparison of ethical behaviors of elementary school in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province would be categorized by personal factors including gender, age, family status, and parents’ occupations. The study shows that the ethical behaviors of students in elementary schools in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province are similar in any types of personal factors; however, the family status does impact the ethical behaviors of students in elementary schools in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province given that there was a statistic difference at significant level of 0.01.
3. it is found that the ethical behaviors of students in elementary schools in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province are moderately shown in term of disciplines, taking responsibility, the five precepts, and the gratefulness towards parents when the behaviors that are in a high level include honesty.
The improvement guidance for the ethical behaviors of students in elementary schools in Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province could start with setting up ethical grooming and teaching process by using various learning activities through social, cultural, and religious mechanics; furthermore, managing the right learning environments is also important since it would require a proper integration of wisdom, cultures, and ethics.
