Abstract

This research had 3 objectives :1) to study the roles of community leaders to prevent crimes of Banphotphisai Provincial District, Nakhon Sawan Province, 2) the comparative study on the roles of community leaders to prevent crimes of Banphotphisai Provincial District, Nakhon Sawan Province classified bypersonal factors and 3) to study the problems, obstacles and to present to suggestions concerning the roles of community leaders to prevent crimes of Banphotphisai Provincial District, Nakhon Sawan Province. This study was the Mixed Methods Research consisting of qualitative, survey and qualitative research. The sampling group of this study was the village committee located within the responsible areas of Banphotphisai Provincial District, Nakhon Sawan Province for the amount of 312 persons from the whole amount of 1,410 altogether by using Taro Yamane’s formula. The statistics used to analyze the datawere frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test for testing hypothesis, F-test, One Way ANOVA and Least Significant Difference: LSD to compare the differences of the mean in pair. And for the qualitative research, the In-Depth Interview with 11 key informants was selected to use in this study to support the data collecting of quantitative research.

The research of this study revealed as the following:

1. The roles of community leaders to prevent crimes of Banphotphisai Provincial District, Nakhon Sawan Province, it appeared in average at the high level (X=3.83). When considered into each aspect, it showed at the high levels for all aspects.

2. The result of the comparative study on the roles of community leaders to prevent crimes of Banphotphisai Provincial District, Nakhon Sawan Province classified by personal factors, it found that community leaders who had different periods of performances took different opinions significantly at 0.05 level, so the hypothesis was accepted. For the community leaders of different sexes, ages, educational levels and positions took no different opinion significantly at 0.05 level, thus the hypothesis was denied.

3. The problems, obstacles and suggestions concerning the roles of community leaders to prevent crimes of Banphotphisai Provincial District, Nakhon Sawan Province, it disclosed that there was less relationship between the community leaders and the police, the police knew the probles found in the communities, but lacked of skills to enforce the law, the criminal cases had not been recorded in figures and the approaches of controlling the criminal cases which were happened in the past within the communities systematically, including the problems on rewards and cheering up, moreover, the police should go out for a visit the people to stop, walk and talk to every group, person in the society.
