Abstract

Abstracts

The thesis entitled ‘An Analytical Study of Humanism of BuddhadasaBhikkhu has three objectives: 1) to study Humanism, 2) to study humanism of BuddhadasaBhikkhu and 3) to analytically study of humanismBuddhadasaBhikkhu. This is a qualitative research.

In the study of the first objective, it was found that the humanism lays great significance on human being and various activity produced by human being’s intellectuality. A human being has potentiality to solve his or her problems, determines their fate and takes responsibility through their wisdom. Everything is under the natural laws of space and time. By nature, a human being possesses the rights and freedom, he or she is not determined by anything. The scientific methods are the human being’s essential tool in acquiring knowledge. The knowledge and truths must be concerned with human being only. In the result of the second objective, Humanism of Buddhadasa Bhikkhu claimed that human being is selfless; he or she consists of four great elements and five aggregated of existence. Human being suffers because of ignorance and attachment. Their actions are not completely free but they can gain the real freedom through their effort and wisdom. Everything in nature is reasonably interrelated, so human being is bound to study the natural causes in order to gain a proper knowledge and thereby acts in accordance with the natural laws to get rid of suffering.

According to BuddhadasaBhikkhu’s view, Humanism is the practice aiming at studying reality in human being’s life and the natural world by which one can live life. This is because one can liberate him or her from suffering depending upon his or her right understanding. This means that the chief duty of human being is to practise the righteous way in order to annihilate selfishness irrespective of any race or religion. In other words, what one should do is to study and follow the core of his or her religion as well as other religions. Consequently, one can have a right understating of religion leading to loving kindness for each other.
