ABSTRACT
This thesis entitled ‘An Analytical study of the Aesthetics in Thawan Duchanee’s Painting’ has three objectives: (1) to study the concept of aesthetics, (2) to study the concept of art in Thawan Duchanee’s Painting and (3) to analyze the concept of aesthetics in Thawan Duchanee’s Painting. This is a qualitative research.
The research showed that the concept of aesthetics is basically concerned with the concept of beauty in art works in which two theories are discussed: (1) the theory of art referring to the imitation of the nature of appearance and thereby the art is the form of the material art and the expression of the emotion and feeling and (2) the aesthetical theory refers to the beauty derived from the personal perception, in this the beauty means the material attribute, the relative outcome of man’s perception and material quality and the new creation.
As far as the art is concerned, the concept of art in Thawan Duchanee’s painting obviously belongs to contemporary art which has no limitation in any form of art; its contents are inspired by Buddhist teachings such as four elements, five Buddhas, four foundations of mindfulness. As regards painting, there are three types, brushwork, painting and drawing.
While the theory of art was being evaluated, it was found that his theory in the art is in line with the expressionism’s art because such a form of material art has been reflecting upon the idea, emotion and feeling in a symbolic characteristic through the imitation of physical appearance of man, animal and things. In the mentioned theory of aesthetics, therefore, it conforms to the relativism’s beauty because it must depend upon the conditions of the existence of the material characteristic and the awareness of man’s mind as the basis for the existence of its contents.
