Abstract
This dissertation entitled ‘An analytical study of the concept of transmigration in the Buddhadãsa Bhikkhu’s view’ has three objectives: 1) to study the concept of transmigration in Buddhist philosophy, 2) to study the concept of transmigration in the Buddhadãsa Bhikkhu’s view and 3) to critically analyze the concept of transmigration in the Buddhadãsa Bhikkhu’s view comparing to Buddhist philosophy. This is a qualitative research.
In the study of first objective, it was found that the existence of the round of rebirth has been upheld by Buddhist philosophy as a real. In explanation of this, according to Buddhism, it basically means the wheel of rebirth under the law of dependent origination theory emphasizing the endless of such a circle. In the study of second objective, according to Buddhadãsa Bhikkhu’s view, the mentioned wheel of rebirth means as the same as Buddhist philosophy but embraces a slightly difference, that is, on the one hand, while the round of rebirth is basically held as an transmigration in Buddhist philosophy, on the other hand, Buddhadãsa Bhikkhu did not stress on that aspect; he obviously emphasized the wheel of rebirth in the present moment through the means of human beings’ language and Dhamma-language so as to introduce the proper understanding of such a concept. In the study of third objective, as far as the wheel of rebirth is concerned, it showed that while giving an explanation to the mentioned concept, Buddhadãsa Bhikkhu laid great emphasis on the present moment because the proof of its existence can be simplified; the need of long time in proving it is dismissed and this method of explanation given by Buddhadãsa Bhikkhu showed the considerable difference between Buddhist philosophy and his way.
In this research, the researcher is of the view that the aforesaid method made by Buddhadãsa Bhikkhu can be easily applied to convince people who are interested in the wheel of rebirth due to its simplification of understanding and proof in each one’s life.
