Abstract
This dissertation is of 3 objectives, namely: (1) to study about the persons successful in life according to the Buddhist Theravāda Scriptures, (2) to study dhamma about success according to the Buddhist Scriptures, and (3) to offer about the persons study successful in life in the entertainment career according to the Buddha's Teachings.
The process of the document research was carried out by collecting the view prints from the Tipitaka in Thai version by Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya, 2539 B.E. as well as the other related research works and documentaries. The field research were carried out by the interviews 10 famous and successful actors and actresses: Mr. Thongchai Mcintire, Mr. Pongpat Wachirabunjong, Mrs. Sinjai Plengpanich, Ms. Jintara Sukaphatana, Mrs. Pisamai Wilaisak, Mr. Noppon Komarachun, Mrs. Woranuch BhiromBhakdi, Mrs. Mayura Savetsila, Mrs. Duangdao Charuchinda, and Mr. Jesdaporn Pholdee
The results of the study indicated that persons successful in life according to the Buddhist Scriptures: Cūlantevāsik, Lady Visākha, Lady Sāmāvati, Khujjuttarā, Lady Uttarā, Lady Sirimā, and Mahājanaka. They all lead their life followed Dharma, i.e. kindness, patience, four Iddhipāda, and wisdom. Thus, they decidedly are important persons and model for living by Buddha’s teachings.
In case of dhamma about success according to the Buddhist Scriptures, there were Nāthakaranadhammas (virtues which make for protection), five Precepts, four Sańgahavatthus (bases of sympathy), Sucaritas (good conduct), Sappurisa-dhammas(qualities of a good man), four Iddhipādas(path of accomplishment), Ariya-dhanas (noble treasures), Gharavāsa-dhammas (virtues for a good household life), Brahmavihāras (holy abidings:sublime states of mind), Gihipatipattis (conduct or practice for layman), Kālama Sutta, Kalyānamittā (qualities of a good friend), Noble Eightfoldpath, and Happiness.
The study of successful life of people in entertainment career indicates that they adapted the Dhamma principles for their entertainment works. There were divided into: self-regulation consisted of five percepts (rules of morality) and four Brahmavihāras (holy abidings:sublime states of mind). Job performance included four Iddhipādas (path of accomplishment) and Sappurisa-dhammas(qualities of a good man). And social performance composed of Kalyānamittā (qualities of a good friend) and six directions (human relation). All those principles were also applied as the tools to support the achievements in their entertainment careers. According to the principles, they could be successful in their livelihood: being famous, receiving honorary awards, continuing woks, and being accepted by the people and societies.
