ABSTRACT
This thesis is of 3 objectives namely:- (1.) To study the patterns of the female prisoners’ mental development and the mental development of the member of The Young Buddhist Mental Development Association of Thailand Under the Royal Patronage. (2.) To study the Process of the female prisoners’ mental development at the Central Women Correctional Institution according to the Buddhadhammas and (3.) To evaluate the process of the female prisoners’ mental development according to the Buddhadhammas. Regarding the assumtion of the research work, it is found that 1.) The female prisoners who attend to the mental training course according to the principles of the Buddhadhamma are of the different views about the patterns, the benefits, the suitability of the essence, the time, and future pattern which gives the result afferently before and after. 2.) Their experiences in Dhamma studies give different results to them. This thesis is the collective study and research between the qualitative one and the quantitative one. It is connected with the female resolute prisoners in the Central Women Correctional Institution. There was the arrangement of the various pattern and the occupation training. This includes the regular moral trainings on special occasion such as the important days in Buddhism and the Nation all of which are of the results according the statistic which appears that are more and more wrong doers every years. The researcher has brought the pattern of the training of the Young Buddhists Association of Thailand Under the Royal Patronage to be fulfilled with the Central Women Correctional Institution already managed to be the pattern of mental development in the pattern of the fulfillment according to the Doctrined principles to be applied to the women prisoners in the Central Women Correctional Institution. The researcher has designed the two steps namely:- The integration of the 5 Doctrinal principles, namely:- (1.) The Threefold Training, the ten Items of Meritorious Actions, the Four Bases of Sympathy, the Five Precepts and the Six Directions. (2.) The support of Three methods of Training as follows A.) To build up and promote the knowledge of both the world and the Doctrines according to the principles of the eight worldly conditions. B.) To build up and promote the knowledge of the Doctrinal behavior of living together with Loving Kindness and sympathy with one another according to the principle of the Noble Eightfold Path. C.) To build up the mental development according to the way of the Four Foundations of mindfulness.
The instruments for collecting the data are:- A.) The type of the questionnaire for the female prisoners who join the training course for mental development in the project of studying the process of female prisoners’ mental development at The Central Women Correctional institution according to the Buddha Dhamma. The researcher collected the data before and after the training course. B.) The deeply interviewing the Director General of the Department of Correction, The Director the Central Women Correctional Institution, the Vipassanã Acãrya Monks and the experts who tanght the Dhamma in the project. C.) The type of interviewing the officers controlling the mental training course. D.) The type the E.Q. Test of The Development of The Mental Health. The exemplary groups are the female prisoners of the highest case of the numbers of 100 by using the specific type.
From the research it found that:-
1. The study of the pattern of the female prisoners’ mental development at the Central Women Correctional Institution, and at the Young Buddhist Mental Development Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage. After the searcher has studied the training she has brought the two types of training to be integrated as the type of the mental Development the mental development of the female prisoners’ mental development at The Central Correctional Institution according the Buddha Dhammas. This type is suitable for the management of training the female prisoners in the Central Women Correctional Institution.
2. The study of the process of the female prisoners’ mental development at Central Women Correctional Institution, gives the result causing the researcher to fix the time table for the training and the practicing of Vipassanã-KammatÚtÚhãna in the form strong integration in the way of the 4 SatipatÚtÚhãnas from November 15, 2010 to December 17, 2010. This course is used in training female prisoners satisfactorily by all the connected people.
3. The researcher has evaluated the result of the mental development of all the connected persons and the female prisoners, and brought all the data to analyzed, synthesize, and concluded the result of the process of the female prisoners’ mental development. Thus the pattern and the process of female prisoner’s mental development are effective.
4. The prisoners joining the course of mental development according to the principles of Buddhadhammas are of different views in the forms, the benefits, the suitability of the essence, the period of time and the future patterns with the important statistical points.
5. The experience in studying the Dhammas possessed by the female prisoners who attended the mental training course prison gives the result to the mental development before and after differently with the statistically important point.
Thus it can be concluded that the process of the mental development of the female prisoner at the central female prison according to the Buddhist Doctrinal principles in the viewpoint of the prisoners at the Central Women Correctional Institution is at the high level.
