Abstract

This Dissertation is composed of 3 objectives namely:- 1) study the concept of the common cooperatives and their parallelism to the Buddhist principle; 2) study the status of the cooperatives in Thailand; and 3) develop of cooperatives according to the Buddhist principle. The researcher analyzed collected data as well as survey research method based on two different groups. Group No. (1) was the group who won an outstanding award of the National Cooperative for the year 2012 and the Buddhist group running businesses with the cooperative enterprise model. Both were analyzed using SWOT method through interview process. And, group No. (2) was the common cooperatives group comprised of 429 members. An inquiry of “The Development of the Cooperative Model Based on Buddhist Principle” was given to each of the members. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics as well as the analytical information.
It was found that the concept of cooperatives agrees with the Buddhist principle by way of representation - its juristic entity and its meaning in the form of unity as signified by Buddhism as harmony. In regards to 4 Sangahavatthus, charity (Cāga) and contribution (4 Gharavasa-dhammas) to benefit for self and others. The Buddha regarded and talked about self benefaction as much as benefits to others (Sadharanabhogita).
The analysis of Thailand cooperatives found that cooperative strength are the transparent operation and able to recheck, in contrast; the weakness is the member truly lack of knowledge in cooperative concept, principles and ideology. The opportunity is supported by officials and threat from business is highly competitive.
The development of the cooperatives based on Buddhist principle can be accomplished and strengthened with 4 Sangahavatthus and 4 Brahmaviharas to create harmonious and promote learning weakness with the 4 Gharavasa-dhammas and analyze the opportunities and barriers to prevent threat with 7 Sappurisa-dhammas. From the cooperative model base on Buddhist concept which is 1) Cooperative on Buddhism path base on mission goals of policy objective in accordance with the cooperative principles. 2) The management of the cooperatives on Buddhism path. 3) Members cooperative on Buddhism path. Thus, the development of the cooperatives should be done according to the four levels so that the cooperatives people would have faith, discipline, sacrifice, hence, wisdom.
