ABSTRACT
This research aimed to (1) to study effectiveness for learning and teaching of Dhamma education in Chombueng district, Ratchaburi province, (2) to compare the levels of effectiveness for learning and teaching of Dhamma education in Chombueng district, Ratchaburi province, classified by personal factors, and (3) to examine the problems, obstacles and suggestions in development of effectiveness for learning and teaching of Dhamma education in Chombueng district, Ratchaburi province. The Mixed Method Research was employed in this study. The sample of this research consisted of 202 Buddhist monks in Chombueng district, Ratchaburi province. The tool for collecting data was the questionnaire with both closed and open-ended questions. The statistical techniques used in data analysis were the frequency, percentage (%), mean (), standard deviation (S.D.). To test the hypotheses, t-test, F-test or one way analysis of variance and Least Significant Difference or LSD were employed. And for qualitative research, analysis of documents and interviews were used. The findings of this research are as follows :
1. The overall effectiveness for learning and teaching of Dhamma education in Chombueng district, Ratchaburi province was found at the high level with average mean of 4.14, when considering into each aspect, it was found at the high levels in all aspects, with “the monk of teaching Dhamma” having the highest average mean of 4.23, while “the instructional media” the lowest average mean of 4.07.
2. The comparable results regarding the levels of effectiveness for learning and teaching of Dhamma education in Chombueng district, Ratchaburi province, classified by personal factors, revealed no significant differences in respect of personal factors like status, age, years of ordination, general educational level, Dhamma educational level, and Pali educational level of respondents, thus rejecting the formulated hypotheses.
3. The suggestions and guideline in development of effectiveness for learning and teaching of Dhamma education in Chombueng district, Ratchaburi province, relating to four aspects of the study showed that:
For the monk of teaching Dhamma: teachers should be provided technical skills training to use in the learning and teaching in order to motivate and inspire the students, full schedule should be allotted to the Dhamma teaching monks and there should be campaign for the Dhamma teaching monk to refrain from or stop smoking, especially in places, inside and outside the classroom.
For the instructional activities: the teaching should focus on the purpose of analysis applied to real life, set more schedules for learning and teaching of Dhamma education, make motivation to study the Dhamma education or the regulations and sanctions for violators, and should be awarded to those who passed the Central examination.
For the instructional media: the budget allocation for the purchase of teaching equipment by allowing Buddhists to take part in contributing fund for the education of monks and novices to the Office of Religious Education, the textbooks and reading books should have the same standard and the choice of materials should suit the conditions of the classroom.
For the Building and Environment : the venues for teachhttp://mcu.ac.th/BO/Handle/documentary/index_doc.phping should be independent, the air conditioning or fans in the classroom or planting trees to shade light to the classroom in the afternoon, and should create opportunity to change locations due to stress of students.
