The study entitled “The Leadership Development Based on Buddhist
Doctrines for the High PerformanceResearch and Development Organization under the Ministry of Science andTechnology” aimed 1) to study the general characteristics of the leadership within
the High Performance Research and Development Organization under the Ministry of
Science and Technology (MOST) 2) to study Buddhists doctrines and theories related
to the leadership in the High Performance Research and Development Organization
under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST); and 3) to present the
development model based on Buddhist doctrines for the High Performance Research
and Development Organization under the Ministry of Science and Technology
(MOST). The nature of the study was mixed between a qualitative and quantitative
research. In the respect of a qualitative method the In-depth Interview was used to
collect data from 21 key informants who are administrators and stakeholders in the
Research and Development Organization under the Ministry of Science and
Technology (MOST), and the focus group was also done to make the method of data
collection reliable. For a quantitative method the sample of the study included 280
personnel working at the Headquarter and 5 Regional branches of the Research and
Development Organization under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST),
using a questionnaire to collect data from those 280 respondents. The data analysis
of a qualitative method was based on a descriptive statistics, whereas the data
analysis of a quantitative method was based on a computer program using statistics
including Frequency, Percentage, Mean ( x ) and standard deviation (SD), F-test,
ANOVA (One-way ANOVA) and Multiple linear Regression used to analyze the
relationship between the leadership and HPO and build the leadership development model based on Buddhist doctrines from the results of both qualitative and quantitative methods.
From the study it was found that different personal traits showed the different opinion on the leadership based on Suppurisadhamma 7, Iddhibada 4, Sangahavatthu 4, leadership of change, situational leadership influencing the High Performance Organization, resulted in building leadership development model from 3 categories of Buddhist doctrines with 15 components as follows.
1. The most personnel in the Research and Development Organization under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) were female the numbers of which were 128 equal to 65 %, and there were 98 male personnel the percentage of which was 35. The most respondents’ age was between 31-40 years with 103 in number equal to 36.80 %. The most respondents agreed with the leadership development for the High Performance Organization.
2. In the respect of the general characteristics of leadership it was found that the inclusive principle of leadership was the development of leaders to have a self-control, high mindfulness, concentration, morality, honesty, being a good example, a good vision on Science and Technology and Innovation.
3. Regarding the analysis of Buddhist doctrines and theories related to the leadership it was found that Buddhist doctrines more influencing the High Performance Organization were as follows: (1) Sangahavatthu 4 had quite less to moderateinfluence; (2) Iddhibada 4 had a moderate influence; and (3) Suppurisadhamma 7 had a moderate to high influence; whereas theories had a moderate influence.
4. The leadership model based on Buddhist doctrines included conditions, class of leadership, prioritization, and 3 categories of Buddhist doctrines with 15 components: Sangahavatthu 4 consisting of 4 componets, Iddhibada 4 comprising of 4, and Suppurisadhamma 7 consisting of 7 componets. |
