Efficiency Development on Management of the Provincial Meditation Practice Centers

Abstract

 The objectives of this research are as followed: 1) to analyze the general environment on the management of the provincial meditation practice centers, 2) to study the integration concepts, theories and Buddhist doctrine for the management of the provincial meditation practice center, and 3) to present the model to develop the management efficiency for the provincial meditation practice centers which will be highlight on the main three aspects; local condition, personnel and management.

This research is carried out by Mix Method Research on the management of the provincial meditation practice centers of the Sangha Administration Region 15. The firstly step is studied the current situation of the management system. The deeply interview with some key persons to understand not only the circumstance, strength, weakness and treat, but also the valuables suggestions and perceptions. Then, performed the investigation on texts, documents, papers, journal and any others research’s materials which indicated better management system. The preliminary model has been set up for the specific panel discussion in order to consolidate all opinions, evident and applicable doctrines which effectively support the better management system. Then, this preliminary model will be verified the feasibility and improvement to completely fulfill prior to presentation.
The end-up results of this research are summarized below:
1. The current environment will be described as; Strengths: the promotion on both education and training on Buddhist studying and practicing for all monks and novices in the centers, the abbot pay attention on the propagation of Dhamma, and the Sangha encourage the training courses for the meditation teacher. Weaknesses: limited accommodation declined building, inadequate facilities, lack of vision on building’s maintenance, lack of proactive strategic management, personnel lack of experience on meditation practice, and lack of coordination with experts from outside. Treats: disturbed from pigeons, dogs, cats, chickens, etc., rapid change on globalization and technology impacts which draw the attention of monks and novices out of the right practice and lack of integrated promotion on the three training for study, practice and fruit. Opportunities: Buddhism is internationally accepted as peace promotion, new technology and knowledge available in the Sangha University.
2. The crucial factors for better system or at least more efficiency are concerned on inside and outside condition, and strategies planning of management. These will be cascaded by the project planning, working manual, organization, line of command, the director of activities supervision, launching as planned controller, performance report of the centers, planning on work-program-budget, and monitoring. As for integration of Buddhist doctrine, 4 Iddhipada; Chanda, Viriya, Citta, and Vimansa, should be focused on whenever organize the main activities both inside and outside the center in order to build up more and more effective efficiency of the management system.
3. The standard model of management efficiency is consist of (1) Local condition: The visionary abbot eagerly investigate and follow up the successful center in order to improve his center. The abbot realize how to specify the objectives, able to create the useful project, skill to do action plan of the project planning, and control accommodation and buildings be always clean and ready to any activity. (2) Personnel: Key staff know how to allocate workload and delegations, able to work as team and support the team’s goal, skill on control and command, able to follow up and appraise the performance, able to do self-development and personal development for leadership, design the education program for both study and practice. All personnel should often meeting. (3) Management: The account and finance system of the center must be properly set up as well as based on good governance basis and should be separated from temple’ system. All information about the participants of the center must be recorded in detail. The fund for propagation of the center should be founded. The propagation of the center activities should be distributed via all medias such as leaflets, cut-out, plate, community radio, TV, etc., and social network, such as website, Facebook, Line, etc. The activities as well as learning and knowledge of the center can be produced and distributed such as chanting, practicing and meditation on books, CDs, DVDs, etc.
