The main objectives of this research were: i) to study the Sangha’s opinions towards administrative roles of Sangha administrators in Samkhok District, Pathumthani Province; ii) to compare the Sangha’s opinions towards administrative roles of Sangha administrators in Samkhok District, Pathumthani Province, classified by personal factors; and iii) to study the problems and suggestions for improvement of administrative roles of Sangha administrators in Samkhok District, Pathumthani Province. The survey research was carried out in this study.
A group of samples for this research consisted of 154 monks who have lived in the temples in Samkhok District, PathumthaniProvince, being drawn by simple random sampling technique. The tool for data collection in this research was questionnaire comprising check-list, rating scale and opened end questions. The program for social science research was employed for data analysis. The statistics used for it were frequencies, percentage, average means, standard deviation, and One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
Results of Research were concluded as follows:
The overall Sangha’s opinions towards administrative roles of Sangha administrators in Samkhok District, PathumthaniProvince were found at high level (= 3.86). Having considered by each item, it was almost rated at the high levels at all items with the exception of the following items stating that there was a given training course for being as “monks and novices” and for Dhamma and Vinaya, good conduct in rites and rituals performance or the good practice, there was verbal rewards for those follow rules and regulations/daily activities as usual, and there enacted rules and regulations for collective living for the sake of happiness and perfectness, being noted at the moderate levels.
With regard to the comparison of the Sangha’s opinions towards administrative roles of Sangha administrators in Samkhok District, Pathumthani Province, classified by personal factors, it was found that age, years of ordination, levels of Dhamma studies, levels of Pali studies, and levels of general education of Sanghas were not noted statistically significant differences even at .05 level, thus rejecting the formulated hypotheses.
The results of studying the problems and suggestions for improvement of administrative roles of Sangha administrators in Samkhok District, Pathumthani Province, showed that some monks paid no attention to the abbot’s orders, there was no registration records of monks, novices and laity in some temples resulting in less effective administration, and Sangha administrators lacked knowledge and understanding of Sangha Administrative Act and the Elder Council’s Rules and Regulations. The suggestions were summarized as follows : there should enforced more strict rules and regulations in order to control Sangha behaviors in line with the Vinaya, the registration of monks, novices and laity living the temple should be carried out for the effective administration, and Sangha administrators should take seriously in rules and regulations enforcement for the happy and peaceful Sangha as specified in Sangha Administrative Act and the Elder Council’s Rules and Regulations. |
