This research on “Analysis of the role of Buddhist ecclesiastical monks to cultivate faith to children and youth” had 3 purposes : 1) to study the faith in Theravada Buddhism, 2) to study the role on cultivating the faith of Buddhist ecclesiastical monks in Theravada Buddhism, and 3) to analyze the Buddhist ecclesiastical monks’ role on cultivating the faith to the children and youth in Bang Munnak District, Phichit Province.
The results of the research were:
1. The faith in Theravada Buddhism, the confidence or the faith of Buddhism was divided into two types: 1) the correct faith is the faith that lead to the wisdom, resulting from the search of the interesting stories and 2) it is incorrect faith that blocked the wisdom, did not ask, but practice a lot.
The principle of the instilled faith were: 1) Rupappamanika – the person who was interested in the figure, 2) Lukuppamanika – the person who was interested in the sadness, 3) Khosappamanika – the person who was interested in the sound, and 4) Dhammapamanika – the person who was interested in the Dhamma.
2. Role on cultivating the faith of the Buddhist ecclesiastical monks in Theravada Buddhism were that in the Buddha's life time, the monks played the three important roles on teaching the Dhamma: the role of the monks as a teacher since that era: the monk had served as both a knowledge that would lead to a career and the good behavior for a professional. After the Buddha’s death, the monks were the first propagation of giving doctrinal faith to the leaders in that regions, then to teach community leaders. Buddhist leader as Ashoka ; the Great was a patron of Buddhism. He had sent two monks; Pra Sona and Pra Uttara to Suvarnabhumi. Thai people accepted the Buddhism as their religion from the past to this present.
Roles of the monks were responsible for 5 actions : (1) to take care the Ministry, (2) to manage education for monks and the public, (3) to teach the Buddhism, (4) to construct and look after the temples and (5) to perform public roles in society.
3. The analysis of the Buddhist ecclesiastical monks’ role on cultivating the faith to the children and youth in Bang Munnak District, Phichit Province was found that the Buddhist ecclesiastical monks in the past that played two roles on cultivating the faith to the people and applied 4 ways for cultivating the faith. However, the ten Buddhist ecclesiastical monks in Bang Munnak District, Phichit Province cultivated the faith in various ways depending on the different situations and opportunities. |
