This research aims to study (1) Tajapanjakamthana in Theravada Buddhism, (2) practicing Tajapancakamthana in Theravada Buddhism, and (3) guidelines to apply Tajapancakamthana to daily lives.
It is found as follows:
1. Tajapancakamthana in Theravada Buddhism refers to hair, fur, nails, teeth, skin. They should be considered disgusting. The importance of Tajapancakamthana is a consideration of corpse consisting of hair, fur, nails, teeth, skin .aiming at considering our body dirty. Thus, those who want to free from the desires should have a complete consideration of Tajapancakamthana at the early stage.
2. Practicing Tajapancakamthana in Theravada Buddhism is found that it is one of Stipattanasutta focusing on practicing with consciousness, physical consciousness or physical consideration which is called “Kayanupassana” considering everything consciously as natural happening, seeing through the truth regardless of power and prestige. At the same time, it focuses on breathing in and out including a consideration of Iriyabotbun, Sumpachanyabun, Patikulamanasikabun, Thatumanasikarabun, and Navasiwathikathabun respectively. The advantage of Panjakakamthan practice will cause firm consciousness, soft manner, strong organism, and live in the heaven after death.
