There were 3 main objectives of this thesis: 1) to study the historical background of teaching and learning Buddhist studies subject of the Dhamma teachers in Weruwanwittaya School, 2) to study the process of teaching and learning Buddhist studies subject of the Dhamma teachers in Weruwanwittaya School, 3) to study the efficiency of Buddhist studies subjects of the Dhamma teachers in Weruwanwittaya School. However, this thesis was conducted based on mixed research methodology: qualitative and quantitative. The target populations in this study were school administrator, teachers, the committee of the Weruwanwittaya School, and Dhamma-teachers, 8 in total (both monastic member and lay people). The populations in this study were 84 of the elementary education grade 4-6 students, and had reliability at 0.87. This study sampling the sample by means of Krejcie and Morgans’ method in which it had 70 samples. Furthermore, the statistics used in this study were: Mean and Standard Deviation (S.D.).
The result of the study found that
Historically, Weruwanwittaya School was one of the leading Buddhist ideological schools that applied the Buddhist principles in running educational activities for the total quality of both educational achievement and that of ethical value of the students. The Buddhist ideological schools were the schools that organized learning activities and teaching processes in various forms, and not only aimed at total quality of the educational achievement but also the well-being and happiness of the students. Therefore, those teachers who taught in Buddhist ideological schools needed to apply various teaching techniques and attractive teaching material.
For the teaching of Buddhist Studies subjects of the Weruwanwittaya School in Weruwanwittaya School, Nongphai Sub-district, Thawatburi District, Roi-Et Province, the study found that ,at the whole picture and in each aspects, the engaged approach resulted in high scale. While, examining in each aspect found that 4 aspects resulted in high scale and 2 aspects results in the middle scale, which categorizing from the lowest to the highest as following: in organizing learning activities, in teaching, in preparing the teaching materials, educational evaluation, and additional activities that supported to the curriculum.
Last but not at the least, this study found that the efficiency of Buddhist studies subjects of the Dhamma teachers in Weruwanwittaya School was very successful especially the activities that supported to the learning progress, the activities held on the Buddhist auspicious days. All those activities paved the right path to the students in living; therefore, they behaved in desirable characteristic such as study hard, not doing harm to the other fellows, be patient and compassionate, and be grateful to their parents and the education institution. Furthermore, they didn’t engage in things that led to ruin; on the contrary, spoke nice words, respected to the parents and be responsible to the given task. |
