Abstract

                   This thesis mainly focused on the historical background and the significance of the local-herbal-medical doctors and the ethic of local-herbal-medical doctors. The result of the study found that the ethic of that the local-herbal-medical doctors applied in processing their occupation could be divided into three categories.

1)      The history of local-herbal-medical doctors was gradually developed in the long history. This medical treatment had a specific method in convening knowledge by learning by heart. Then, it was written down as a book form. Moreover, there was code of ethic for local-herbal-medical doctors named Chandasata. Those who occupied this career had to consider those code of ethic.

2)      The local-herbal-medical doctors also implemented the Buddhist ethic in agreeable with the diseases such as the three unwholesome, the sublime states of mind, the basis for success, had the ability of the ill-persons to medicine. This led the local-herbal-medical doctors in having well-known frame, and in the other hand, those customers who came to take service also felt safety and trust in being severed.

3)      This study found that the ethical problem of the local-herbal-medical doctors was selfishness, dueling to the situation of economic crisis. Some just wanted to become the local-herbal-medical doctors for earning income, but were lack of moral ethics in this profession.

                  Nevertheless, the solutions for such ethical problems need a lot of cooperation from all parts of the society. However, the three well-known local-herbal-medical doctors, Mr.Kam Chusrithong, Mr.Suth Chamnamming, Mr.Buddha Bochaila, had suggested that: 1)  the local-herbal-medical doctors should hold the Buddhist principle of being mindful, 2) the local-herbal-medical doctors should hold the sublime state of mind, 3) the local-herbal-medical doctors should devoid of bias and negative thought to the customers.
