This research is to study application the four foundations of mindfulness (satipattãna) to health behavior modification for prediabetes: Acase study of the prediabetes in Rongkwang hospital Phrae Province. To study the four foundations of mindfulness (satipattãna)of Theravada Buddhist scriptures and evaluate health behavior and clinical outcomes of the four satipattana application for prediabetes.
The study is documentaly research and experimental research. Diabetes mellitus is a common chronic endocrinologic disease.The growing number of diabetic patiants is important problem in Thailand. Diabetic long term vascular complications ,those can cause considerable physical, psychological and economic morbility. Therefore, application of the four foundations of mindfulness in health behavior modification has been use to prevent and delay progression of diabetes mellitus. The sample was in 40 prediabetes persons the study was conduct from 26Th August - 26 ThNovember 2011. The instruments of this study included 40 persons sample were divice in two group. Experimaintal group, was trained and practice by the four foundations of mindfulness (satipattãna)and apply to their daily life for 12 weeks. The Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and, pair t- test statistic.
The results of the study showed: The total of 40 prediabetic patients , there were female 70%, age 39-75years-old.The practice of the four foundations of mindfulness (satipattana), means of contemplation of the body (Kayanupassana)contemplation of the felling (Vedananupassana) contemplation of the mind (Cittanupassana) and contemplation of the mind-objects (Dhammanupassana) were significantly increase in experimental group more than the control group (P value < 0.01). In health behavior means of food and drink comsumption, the experimental group were significantly increase more than the control group (P value < 0.01). Moreover Means of stress systolic blood pressure in the experimental group were significantly increase more than the control group (P value <.01).means of fasting blood sugar in the experimental group were significantly decrease (P value <0.01).
Fasting blood glucose return to normal level (<100 mg./dl.), in the experimental group, the control group were 45% and 40%, respectively.
In conclusion the study showed application of the four foundations of mindfulness (satipattana) in health behavior modification has been useful to prevent and delay progression of diabetes mellitus. |
