The main objectives of this thesis are: to study the believe and ritual regarding the construction of pagoda in the history Buddhism, to study a unique of Buddhist arts prevailed at Rattanamongkon Pagoda, and to critically study the believe and ritual of the inhabitants at Ban Nong Lai Village toward Rattanamongkon Pagoda.
The result of the study found that, believe and ritual were existed along with the long history of human civilization. Men were intended to act in accordance to what they believe. Undoubtedly, in Thailand, a Buddhist has a great faith to pagoda; therefore, they always pay faithful respect to pagoda and also perform some ritual in respecting to pagoda in several auspicious occasions.
The Rattanamongkon Pagoda at Ban Nong Lai temple, Roi-Et province can be categorized as the Udesikacetiya (the pagoda builds as the representative of the Buddha). It was reconstructed to cover the previous ancient pagoda (in Daravadee period) in 2007. The shape of this pagoda is similar to the Prathatphanom pagoda in Nakhonphanom province, especially in term of the Buddhist arts graved around the body of the pagoda.
Regarding to the believe and ritual of the people at Ban Nong Lai Villages toward Rattanamongkon Pagoda, Roi-Et province, they believe that Rattanamongkon Pagoda was a ancient and sacred pagoda that built to store the Buddha’s relic and ancient Buddha image. More importantly, the inhabitants at Ban Nong Lai Village annually preform ritual in respecting to Rattanamongkon Pagoda. In short, Rattanamongkon Pagoda is a symbolic representation of spiritual savior for the people at Ban Nong Lai, and that play very important role to the living style of them in which this leads to form a sound and peaceful society. |
