The objectives of this research were 1) to study the management of the Koowai river problem on the water pollution of Chiang Mai Metropolitan. 2) to compare the management of the Koowai river problem on water pollution of Chiang Mai Metropolitan, classified by personal factors, 3) to study the problems and the solutions to the management of the Koowai river problem on water pollution of Chiang Mai Metropolitan.The research used mixed research both quantitative research and qualitative research. The sampling population were the 370 residents of the 5,012 total population. The methodology used Taro Yamane formula for the sampling population. The data analysis performed by a computer program for social science research and following statistics such as : frequency, percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation for describing and testing hypotheses by the personal factors. The t-test results were the differences between the two groups. F-test was done by means of analyzing, One Way ANOVA was tested the difference of Means from the three groups upward. The test of the differences Means in each pair was done by the Least Significant Difference: LSD. The qualitative research method used the in-depth interview with the key informants and collaborated the context by the content analysis technique.
The research findings were as follows :
1) The management of the Koowai river problem on the water pollution of Chiang Mai Metropolitan was opined by the Public opinion overall in the moderate level ( =2.71), and considering the moderate level found in all aspects. Means arranged respectively from maximum to minimum were ( =2.74), checking ( =3.68), implementing ( =2.70), and practicing ( =2.68).
2) The opinion compared on the management of the Koowai river problem on the water pollution of Chiang Mai Metropolitan classified by personal factors such as gender, age, education, occupation, and income average found that people with gender, age, education level had no different opinion on the water pollution of Chiang Mai Metropolitan. Whereas the population who had different sex, income education and positions was found different opinion in the significance at level 0.05.
3) The suggestions about management of the Koowai river problem on the water pollution of Chiang Mai Metropolitan found that executives administrative organization should encourage public participation in managing Koowai river problem on the water pollution. Regarding to giving an opportunity and promoting the awareness campaign for public participation in environmental issues, the Koowai river population should perform the public awareness, especially waste water treatment in the community. There should be learning center services, supporting training knowledge to the public and also managing the promotion of environmental conservation continuously.
4) The in-depth interview of the key performants provided the important information on the management of the Koowai river problem on the water pollution of Chiang Mai Metropolitan are as follows: to accomplish the achievement the executive should receive the participation from all aspects. The government should give the priority seriously to the promotion of environmental conservation. There should be the survey of the needs analysis in the area before formulating a plan for resolving the solution and also allocated the budget to support the activities of the people. The public sector should cooperate with the performance of staff and monitoring the operation closely, regarding to the cooperation of the government and the public.
