The study consisted of three main objectives, namely, i) to study the concept of an organic cultivation; ii) to study how to do an organic rice cultivation in accordance with Sufficiency Economy Philosophy of farmer School, Suphanburi Province; and iii) to examine the problems and suggestions to improve an an organic rice cultivation in accordance with Sufficiency Economy Philosophy of farmer School, Suphanburi Province. Documentary research was employed in this study. Various documents, academic works and related research works were carried out including in-deth interview of key farmers who were trained from Kwankao Foundation and its staff. The collected data were examined and analyzed by Content Analysis technique.
The findings of this study were concluded as follows: from the existing problems of rice cultivation in the present, it was derived from the concept of alternation farming for society which rejected the new farming. An organic cultivation is one of concept that regarded as naturally depended alternative farming. This cultivation is totally depended on nature, naturally controlled with holistic view. The basic principle is to reject all types of chemical usages and genetic modification. The goals of an organic cultivation are to conserve and revitalize environment and safe products for consumers and to be integrated with new technology applicable to cultivation and sense of efficiency and effectiveness are highly considered.
An organic rice cultivation is a general organic farming which rejected all kinds of agricultural chemical usages such as chemical fertilizers, synthetic matters, insectizers etc. An organic rice cultivation in accordance with Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) is the application of SEP bestowed by His Majesty the King Bhumibol to agricultural ways of life. The principles and methods of SEP were brought into practice in daily life of farmers. For the problems, the study showed that to do an organic rice cultivation especially in central Thailand, it initially needs high costs. Because majority of farmers practice chemical rice cultivation. It is very difficult for farmers who intentionally want to do an organic rice farming.
