This study consisted of three main objectives, namely, i) to study the roles of Sangha towards traditional boat racing conservation of Wat Thaluang, Muang District, Pichit Province; ii) to compare the roles of Sangha towards traditional boat racing conservation of Wat Thaluang, Muang District, Pichit Province, classified by personal factors; and iii) to study problems and suggestions in the roles of Sangha towards traditional boat racing conservation of Wat Thaluang, Muang District, Pichit Province. The survey research was employed in this study. The samples used in this study consisted of 218 Sangha administrators in Pichit Province, being drawn by random sampling techniques. The tool used for data collection was questionnaire. The statistical techniques used for this research are frequency, mean, and standard deviation. Inferential statistics of t-test and F-test were used to determine the differences in mean scores of both groups, and One-way ANOVA was used to determine the mean scores among three groups or more. Finally, the Least Significance Difference (LSD) was employed to test the differences between means of each pair.
The results are concluded as follows:
1) The most of respondent aged more than 51 years old with below 11 years of ordination. Majority of them had completed less than bachelor degree with the highest Dhamma Studies and Pali 1-2 and 3 grades. Most of them have been living in their temples between 6 – 10 years.
2) The overall Sangha adminstrators’ opinions towards the roles of Sangha towards traditional boat racing conservation of Wat Thaluang, Muang District, Pichit Province, were found at the high level. Considering each aspect, it had been found that was noted the highest levels in aspects of performance and evaluation and preservation. Meanwhile, the aspect of finding the causes of problems and co–finding the way to problem – solving have found at the high levels.
3) Regarding comparison of the roles of Sangha towards traditional boat racing conservation of Wat Thaluang, Muang District, Pichit Province, classified by personal factors, it was found that years of temple living had significant difference at the level of 0.05 of confidence. Meanwhile, age, years of monkhood, general education, Dhamma Studies and Pali Studies had no significant differences.
4) Suggestions reveal that: Sangha administrator should take part in conservation by being leaders in maintaining and developing new shape of boat mixing with old one.
