Abstract
ThiThis is a quantitative research and the purposes of the research are threefold: (1) to study the level of Carita (Character) and level of understanding in lives of Vipassana (Insight meditation) practitioners from Young Buddhists Associations of Thailand, Center 02, (2) to study the comparison of personal basic factors and Carita toward the understanding in lives of Vipassana practitioners from Young Buddhists Associations of Thailand, Center 02, and (3) to study the correlation of Carita and the understanding in lives of 204 Vipassana practitioners from Young Buddhists Associations of Thailand, Center 02.
The tool used in this research was questionnaire and the data obtained was analyzed by frequency distribution, percentage, mean and S.D. The test of differ between level of opinion in behavior and meta-cognition were also analyzed by t-test, F-test, One Way ANOVA and Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient.
The results show as follows:
Buddhi-carita was found to be the highest level among the Vipassana practitioners from Young Buddhists Associations of Thailand, Center 02. Saddha-carita was in the second. As for Raga-carita, Dosa-carita and Moha carita, the mean was at low level and the last one was Vitakka-carita.
Furthermore, the level of understanding in lives of Vipassana practitioners from Young Buddhists Associations of Thailand, Center 02 was found that they understand Aniccata the most. Dukkhata was followed in second and Anattata was ranked as the latest.
As for the comparison of personal basic factors and Carita toward the understanding in lives, it was found that different personal basic factors effected the different in Carita. However, the understanding in lives was not different with statistical significance.
The correlation of Carita and the understanding in lives of Vipassana practitioners from Young Buddhists Associations of Thailand, Center 02 was found that those who characterized Buddhi-carita and Saddha-carita had positive state in the correlation of the understanding in lives with statistical significance whereas those who characterized Raga-carita, Dosa-carita, Moha-carita and Vitakka-carita had negative states in the correlation of the understand in lives with statistical significance.
The research showed the coherence between Carita and the understanding in lives which can be applied to develop the Carita by practicing Vipassana and also the teaching of Vipassana.
