ABSTRACT
This disrtation entitled “The Integration of the Buddhist Principles in the Modification of Deficiency in love” has the objectes :
1. to study the deficient love and modification deficiency love in western psychology.
2. to study the deficient love and modification of the deficient love in Buddha Dhamma.
3. to integrate the Buddha Dhamma to be the instrument in modification of the deficient love.
The result of the research proves that the deficient love in western psychology is the condition of need in love, the lack of love and the seeking for love to fulfil the desire . It is an immature love and must depend on others for the happiness of oneself . To modify deficient love to be a good love, an actualizing love or mature love, a person must create faith in his or her mind and try to conquer narcissism . There is a reasonable belief which can separate an expectant thing from fact. There is a stable mind. There is a confidence to develop good love by adjusting the temper, thought, behaviour, and aim of a person .
In the Buddha Dhamma, the deficient love can explain the word “Taṇhā” which means to wish, seek and then adhere to the possession with the jealousy. There are 2 types, i.e. deficient love by Taṇhā and deficient love by Ditthi, which are, in the ultimate truth, composed of consciousness rooted in greed (Lobha Mūla Citta) . Buddha Dhamma explains the deficient love with wider meaning than the western psychology. The modification of deficient love in Buddhism has to adjust gentlely the person’s state of mind, change the person’s thought to be good and build the kind mind to oneself and others, not to exploit or have malice to destroy oneself and others. Other person must have a correct opinion, and the understanding in the Law of Kamma, and develop his or her mindful life in order to develop his or her happy mind .
When a person has a gentle mind and kindness, he or she will be happy and calm. As a result, he or she will be happy about good love. And he or she will have a good action and good love.
After the researcher studies and integrates the Buddhist knowledge and the western psychology, the resultant new dissertation is the integrated Buddhist modification of deficient love based on the frame of western psychology : adjustment of one’s temper, feeling, behavior and aim .
Furthermore the researcher integrates the Buddhist moral codes with the cooperation of the principles of the psychology that are the frames by bringing the person back to mindfulness, and using the virtues doctrines instead of bad doctrines for changing the negative feeling to become positive. To suppress the anger is the forgiveness. The change of thought is the reasonable thought which is the factor in changing the negative feeling to be positive. Positive thought is the factor to cause the positive feeling to arise and understand the Three characteristic which cause us to understand the Buddhist moral codes.
When one can adjust the thought reasonably , one can adjust one’s behaviour and target from aiming at oneself to others. |
