Abstract

 

The objectives of this study were: i) to study the role for administration of sangha administrators in Saohai District, Saraburi Province, ii) to compare the opinion relating to the role for administration of Sangha administrators in Saohi District, Saraburi Province, classified by personal factors, and iii) to study the problems and suggestions regarding the role for administration of sangha administrators in Saohai District, Saraburi Province. The survey research was carried out in this study. The research sample consisted of 196 Sangha administrators under Mahanikaya sect in saohai District, Saraburi Province. The tool used for data collection was the questionnaire. The statistical techniques such as frequencies, percentage, average, standard deviation (S.D.) were employed for data analysis. The analysis was also done through t-test for verifying the hypotheses in order to test the average difference between the two groups and one-way analysis of variance (One-way ANOVA) for testing the difference between the averages from three or more groups and for testing paired group, the Least Singificant Difference (LSD) was conducted.

The findings of this research were concluded as follows:

              1) The overall level of opinion regarding the role for administration of sangha administrators in Saohai District, Saraburi Province, was found at the high (x = 3.91). When considered into each aspect, it was raked at the high levels in all aspects ranging from the most to the least as follows: administration according doctrine and discipline, administration according Sangha laws and internal administration, respectively.

              2) With regard to comparison of the opinion relating to the role for administration of Sangha administrators in Saohai District, Saraburi Province, classified by personal factors, it was found that age, years of ordination, level of general education, and level of Dhamma Studies had no statistical significant differences even at. 05 level of confidience, thus rejecting the formulated hypotheses; whereas level of Pali  Studies had significant difference at .05 level of confidence.

              3) For the problems, suggestions and guidelines relating to the role for administration of Sangha administrators in Saohai District, Saraburi Province, the study revealed that: for administration according doctrine and discipline, i) administrators had ordered to get operation not consistent with doctrine and discipline, ii) to enact rules and regulations, most of Sangha administrators paid less attention to that, iii) some common persons did not understand internal rules and regulations of temple, iv) to be conflict and to not understand the essence of doctrine and discipline; for administration according to Sangha laws, i) lack of strictness in enforcement of Sangha laws, ii) to not to obey the Sangha laws, iii) there was no clear communication and no readiness for Sangha affaires, iii) lack of readiness to work conforming to Sangha laws; for internal administration, i) no respectfulness for those who ordained before and after, ii) due to large amount of monks and novices, it created difficully for administrators to rule, iii) administrators did not understand the facts of subjects’ problems, and iv) the elders paid no attention the young monks and novices.
