ABSTRACT

                         The objectives of this thesis were 1) to study the principles of Savgahavatthu        (the virtues for social sodality) as depicted in Theravada Buddhism, 2) to study the implementation of the Savgahavatthu in doing work of the officers at the Chaturaphakphiman municipality Sub-district, Chaturaphakphiman District, Roi-et Province, and 3) to study the process of implementationing Savgahavatthu in doing work of the officers at the Chaturaphakphiman municipality Sub-district, Chaturaphakphiman District, Roi-et Province. This thesis was conducted based on mixed method research methodology. This thesis also applied In-Depth Interview to the Key Informants. The samples in this study were 103 officers at the Chaturaphakphiman municipality Sub-district, Chaturaphakphiman District, Roi-et Province, and did sampling by mean of Taro Yamane’s method in which there were 82 samples at last. Moreover, the research instruments applied in this study were questionnaire, instant program in analysis, and had reliability at 0.97. The statistics used in this study were Percentage, Frequency, and Standard Deviation (S.D.).

                         The result of the study found that

                         According to Theravada Buddhist literature, Savgahavatthu was the Buddhist principle that aimed at social solidarity, sympathy, acts of doing favors, the virtues making for group integration and leadership. It was the virtues that promoted the people to offer social service to the society including doing all wholesome activities that led peace to the society.  

                         For the implementation of the Savgahavatthu principles in doing work of the officers at the Chaturaphakphiman municipality Sub-district, Chaturaphakphiman District, Roi-et Province, this study found that the officers implementationed the Savgahavatthu principles in high scale in which categorizing from the largest to the smallest as  Samanattata  (even and equal treatment), Dana (giving), Piyavaca (kindly speech), and Atthacariya  (useful conduct).

                         Nevertheless, for the process of implementationing the Savgahavatthu principles in doing work of the officers at the Chaturaphakphiman municipality Sub-district, Chaturaphakphiman District, Roi-et Province, the officers should integrated this Buddhist principle in accordance with individual profession for promoting love, unity and the total benefit of the people in the local community. For instant, in the case of Dana (giving), the officers should be compassionate to the customers and served them with sincere; spoke only the useful and nicely word was good example for Piyavaca (kindly speech); while offered service to the people without any personal gain was recommended for Atthacariya  (useful conduct); and Samanattata was to serve the people with equal treatment.
