Abstract

 

The objectives of thesis titled ‘An Analytical Study on Process of Sangha Development Following the Pukkhalanyuta (Good Person’s Doctrine)’ were to study the process of Sangha development in Buddhism, to study the process of Sangha development following Pukkhalanyuta, and to study on applying Pukkhalanyuta develop the Sangha at the present time. This was qualitative research by study all data from Tipitaka, academic documents on Buddhism, archaeology and related research for descriptive explanation.

The result of research were found that Pukkhalanyuta was a doctrine and important quality of a good person which reflected the process of Sangha development in the way of wisdom in order to have knowledge and take care others properly and truly and have ablity to interact with others as appropiate by using Yonisomanasikara  as the tools for distinguishing and screening them into the opposite ordered pairs of all steps.

Seven doctrines of good person were provided as the delicate process of wisdom development in all steps; in the first step, it was the process of seeking or searching the educated one or learning sources such as the noble monks, the wise men, the graduates, and the good friends or the good persons with morality who could be worthy as being model in the ways of life, in the second step, it was the method of searching knowledge from the graduate which would help to develop wisdom by getting good and useful knowledge, in the third step, it was the method of potentiality development in oder to get knowledge from the graduate which would help to develop wisdom by getting more effective knowledge, in the fourth step, it was the method of recording knowledge or saving knowledge which would help to develop wisdom by keeping knowledge stably, in the fifth step, it was the method of considering knowledge got from the graduate which would help to screen that was right or wrong, good or bad, proper or non-proper, useful or usefulless, after that could be selected to get rid of bad things and hold only good ones, in the sixth step, it was the method of practice on the graduate’s teaching which would help to prove the results by oneself, in the seventh step, it was the method of propagating knowledge which would be useful to others and that knowledge would turn back as usesful in society completely.

Applying the Pukkalanyuta in order to Sangha development at the present time could be practiced by oneself in seven steps as follows; 1. Searching the graduate, it was to seek  the good person with morality, knolwedge, ability, and expert on that field, after found him, one should associate with him in order to get refuge in the way of suggestion, teaching, warning words and good model for life-living, 2. Listening to his teaching, it was to get knowledge from the graduate who was the source of learning in order to collect knowledge by watching, listening, smelling, touchig, and considering, 3. Listening his teaching carefully, it was to get knowledge wisely in order to get the knowledge effectively,4. Recording his teachings, it was to maintain the worthy knowledge in order to be stable,  5. Considering his teachings, it was to distinguish and screen that knowledge in order to practice rightly and properly, 6. Practicing on that knowledge, it was to bring that knowledge for practice in order to prove the results by oneself, and 7. Propagating that knowledge, it was to bring that knowledge to extend results in order to give benefits to others and public society for getting happiness and properity in the next ways of life.
