Abstract
This research had 3 main objectives: 1) to study the story of the Pseudo-Sciences, 2) to study the Pseudo-Sciences found in Theravada Buddhist Texts and 3) to study of applying the Pseudo-Sciences in Thai society with Theravada Buddhism to arise right thinking. This study was Documentary Research focusing on the study from Tipitaka, commentaries, sub-commentaries textbooks and other related researches and summarized the results of the descriptive data analysis.
The study of the story of the Pseudo-Sciences found in Buddhist Texts or Sciences of fortune-teller, augury which become a part of Astrology Science as results of the research found that the story of the Pseudo-Sciences had been occurred for a long time ago, since the early Buddha’s life time, they were used on forture-teller, augury and predict characters etc. Even though The Buddha’s life time still had such Science as found in the society at that time. Thus, according to Buddhism the Buddha disallowed his disciples study and learn these Sciences because it is not the way of releasing from sufferings.
The principle of the Pseudo-Science teaching as found in analytical study in Buddhist Texts, it was found that The principle of the Pseudo-Science teaching had been occurred for a long time ago, since theBuddha’s life time so, the researcher showed initially by introducing the various Suttas that the Buddha taught his disciples that Pseudo-Sciences are the Sciences discouraged the way of Buddhist monks to Nirvana. The Buddha disallowed Buddhist monks study and learn them because he pointed out it’s useless on practicing Dhamma.
The concepts of applying the Pseudo-Science with Dhamma of Buddhism, it was found even though the Buddha disallowed Buddhist monks and Buddhist laymen study them because he found that it is not the way of releasing from sufferings. By the way, if the Sciences were used in the right way they could be useful at the same time it depended on service user and service person.
Service users, the general villagers like to predict the characters should be studying principles of Buddhism concerning with make a live or practice effort according to Buddhism, should be considering Astrology Science is only a tool of encourage on making a live when the fortune teller predicted the right ways of life, but at the same time if the fortune tellerpredicted the bad ways of life, should be considering this is person who gave an advice on carefulness for the ways of life which was consistent with Appamadha-dhamma ( The Dhamma base on carefulness)
service person, the group of this person should be a good model of making a live for general people. The life will be good or bad it does not depend on a fortune but it depends on the action of the human, should not be using Astrology Science to be a tool in seeking for gain and worship, should be bring principle of believe such as “You get what you give / You get what you deserved” (If you do something to others, others will do it to you) or the concepts of actions in Buddhism to teach villagers. Therefore; the life of human, society and community would be good has to consist of Sammaditthi ( right view), Sammasati (right mindfulness), Sammasamadhi (right concentration) and Sammavayama (right effort) these are the actions or the law of actions, not concerning with a fortune. |
