Abstract

                       This study is the analytical study of the virtues and the roles played by Phra Sonakolivisa Thera as appeared in Buddhist Scriptures. There are three objectives in this research :- 1. To study Ven. Phra Sonakolivisa Thera’s autobiography 2. To study the virtues and the roles played by Phra Sonakolivisa Thera 3. To study and analyze the virtues and the roles played by Phra Sonakolivisa Thera by using the method of information appearing in Buddhist Scripture. The contents of this research are divided into five chapters:

                       What has been found through the research is that Ven. Phra Sonakolivisa Thera was the extinguished virtues and the roles as follows :-

                       1. Ven. Phra Sonakolivisa Thera’s autobiography showed that he passed the support of making merit in past life. He listened to the Dhamma of the Buddha in this life and caused the faith in Buddhism. So he decided to be a monk and practiced the effort and he was introduced by the Buddha to practice the middle way. The last, he is a Arahantship. He

                       2. The virtues and the roles played by Phra Sonakolivisa Thera showed that his’s attainment of Arahantship, he forecasted himself in the Buddhist office. He was praised by the Buddha as a monk who had made effort. Such the effort had been perfect not too weak and too strong. He was allowed to use a single-shoe, he was afraid that if the permission of the Buddha to use a single – shoe alone, it was a scandal and a disgrace to the Buddha. Then, he asked the Buddha to allow for the monks to use the shoes as well. The Buddha allowed to the monks according to his request.

                       3. To analyze the virtues and the roles played by Phra Sonakolivisa Thera showed that forecast was free from mental obsessions. The prediction of the forecast in the fruition of Arahantship not wrong in the disciplinary rule of the Buddha as he determined. It was the right method. The Buddha does not oppose the most effort but he disagrees self-mortification and introduces him to practice the middle path. He was the first that the Buddha allowed to use the shoes and were practiced by the Sangha in the present.
