ABSTRACT
This research entitled ‘Beliefs and Buddhist Teachings appeared in the New Year’s Book of Lanna has three aims 1) to translate the New Year’s Book of Lanna to Thai 2) to study Beliefs in the New Year’s Book of Lanna, 3) to study Buddhist Teachings appeared in the New Year’s Book of Lanna. This study was a qualitative research, collected data by documentary research from the New Year’s Book of Lanna.
The research findings were as the following :
The New Year’s Book of Lanna consists of six beliefs respectively; 1) the belief on the new year day, 2 ) the belief on merit making and donation, 3 ) the belief on weather forecast, 4 ) the belief on making a Buddhist scripture on one’s own birth year, 5 ) the belief on making a Buddhist scripture on one’s own birthday, and 6 ) the belief on the hair washing on one’s own birthday.
Buddhist teachings appeared in the New Year’s Book of Lanna were four ones: 1) Puññakiriyã-vatthu (bases of meritorious action), 2 ) Kataññukatavedi (one who is grateful and repays the done favour), 3) Vuddhi-dhamma (virtues conductive to growth), and 4) Rãjadhamma or Dasavidha-rajadhamma (virtues or duties of the king). These Buddhist teachings are aimed to teach Lanna people to be the good member of families, communities and social according to tradition and culture in Lanna. |
