Abstract
The Thesis of “A Study on Saddhã in the Practice of Vipassanã Bhãvanã in accordance with the Four Foundations of Mindfulness” has two objectives. It is to study Saddhã as appears in the Theravada Buddhist Scriptures and to study Saddhã in the Practicing of Vipassanã Bhãvanã by researching on the Tipitaka, Commentaries, Tika, the Visuddhimakka and related Vipassanã Textbooks. It is analyzed, descriptively written and finally certified by Specialists.
The finds out that “Saddhã” , vocabularily means “Faith”. Buddhism holds “Saddhã” in two categories. Saddhã comprising of Pannã and Saddhã without Pannã.
In the Process of Vipassanã Bhãvanã, Saddhã means the “Adhimokkha” which is the Passage of Wisdom for Practitioner who begins to enter Vipassananã. When the Practitioner acknowledges the Peculiarities of Nama – Rupa such as the luminous aura of Obhasa, the mindful Nanã, the Piti, the Exertiveness, the firm Mindfulness, the Resolution, the Tranquility as well as the Pleasure or Equanimity, he may strongly get attached into those phenomena never before experienced. In fact, Saddhã and Adhimokkha are fundamentally different. One is Saddhã cetasikka while the other is Adhimokkha cetasikka. Saddhã is to honestly believe with confidence and is among those wholesome cetasikkas on Sila, Samadhi, and Panya. The importance of Saddhã is in the potentiality to Salvation like those Saddhãnusari who are Faith Devotee whose Saddhã has already been perfected and being backup by Wisdom. Saddhã, especially in the belief of theTriple Gems, is therefore a safeguard that keep people in the virtuous Frame.
